I just sold a 1958 641L ford Workmaster tractor with excellent compression. I replaced it with a NH Workmaster 33 or 33 horsepower. That new diesel tractor with loader is much heavier than the fully weighted old 641. I run the same attachments and when I use the Brush hog the new turbo diesel never even strains. The old 641 was rated at 48 horsepower and the new one 33. I used the older one even as a kid in OK on the grandparents farm and it never had the power of the new one. A 641 was a 3 bottom plow tractor so I would say any 25 horse tractor being a little turbo diesel would pull it, you might have to go to an auction and score some rusty wheel weights and get some heavy all thread and make some adapters but it would pull it especially a shuttle or hydrostat that we have today that are infinitely adjustable, always have the right gear. If you have a loader you might have some weight in it too.
@johnmoore80167 жыл бұрын
Do they use slat wings plows any more? I would add a little more power so the plows would turn the dirt over more. brings back memories of when I was a teenager plowing on the farm many years ago. thanks for the video.
@hoff648811 жыл бұрын
Hey Ted, I notice that you did not remove the stabilizers from your tractor. A plow it supposed to be able to float side to side. that is why the tractor is spinning with the small plow behind it and why as you can see in the video the driver is having to keep the front wheel pulling the front around back into the furrow way. Other than that good video the rest is correct.
@marcelkroeze75802 жыл бұрын
@@Dougarrowhead no. A well set up plow will follow the tractor in a straight line without restriction, if the tractor pulls straight the plow will follow that same line. The plow wants the tractors front to go right, when you set it up right the tractor will pull slightly to the left and this ballances each other out.

do you need to plow if you are going to till? Would you do both? If not, when would you plow vs till and what's the difference in terms of result?
@EverythingAttachments8 жыл бұрын
A plow turns over the vegetation and, if you give it some time before discing or tilling, it will decompose and your garden will benefit. The plow also cuts deeper, which is also good for your plot. Preferred order is plow, disc and till. You can leave out the disc and go straight to tilling, but the disc simply helps out the tiller with an intermediate breaking of the soil.

@RoughNeckRage All about weight and traction. We have an old Fordson Super Dexta with about 35-40hp, and it would pull a three furrow bottom plow easy. have never tried a compact tractor with ag tires, so I'm not sure how big difference it makes compared to the ones in the video, but a 2bottom plow for a 42hp 4x4 tractor should be fine. so if your soil isn't extremely hard, i'd say go for it!

The Ford 9n was used with two 14" bottoms and was in the low 20s in horsepower. As he said in the video, weight is the limiting factor in modern tractors. You need to go to a 50hp compact tractor to have as much traction as the 23(ish)hp 9n had.

George Thomas That Kubota is maybe 1500 pounds or so heavier than a TO20 or N Ford. The 2150 pound 9N or 2700 TO20 are no where near as heavy as that Kubota in the vid. The tractor in the video is around 4,000 without the loader. That looks to be in the L40 series.

For comparison. I have a Ford 680 tractor. Just about the same weight as the tractor in the video MINUS the loader. My 860 is rated at 45HP by the Nebraska tests. Almost identical in the tests with that Kubota. My 860 doesn't have a loader. The Kubota because of things like the 4 wheel drive is heavier. Then the loader adds even more weight. I'm up grading from a 2-12" plow (I used that with a Ford 8N) to a 2-14. So that Kubota, with the plow set up correctly, and with an experienced operator in the seat should play with that plow.

Plowing is a great initial step in soil preparation which should increase crop yields. It's a good idea to turn the soil over with a plow in late fall, which will cause the organic matter to decompose and add nutrients back to the soil. Disking prior to planting in the Spring will mix the matter up and leave you with a better soil composition to work with! Thanks for watching!!
@EverythingAttachments11 жыл бұрын
A middle buster is also known as a potato plow, it is good for bringing up vegetables that grow under the ground such as potatoes. As for you stuck attachment, I would start with a penetrating oil, hopefully it will soak in within a day or two, if not, a hammer could be useful, and hopefully you don't have to go as far as using a torch to pull it off.
