Bab's is so right when she said everyone starts out as an artist, and have it "beaten" out of us. Up to about 8th grade I LOVED art. My art teacher ruined it for me. I use to have a very cartoonish styled of my art. Which while it was cartoonish, was consistent. We had a project that we had to do in "our own style" (her words). Featuring parts of our life: Likes, Fears, Family Hobbies etc. She told me I couldnt do a cartoon style spider cause it wasn't realistic. (My family was all drawn as circle heads, no finger hands, big eyes.) The spider was the problem. I gave up on art after that year. Only picking it up, after High School.

Long comment, sorry! I'm tired and emotional and started to rant. .. When I was 10 my art teacher (who wasn't much of an artist herself) told us we could choose a piece of art we've done during the year and do a show and tell with it. I chose this cardboard cupcake craft we did in class that I loved and was so proud of it. But when it came to me to show and talk about it the whole class, including the teacher laughed at me because it didn't look like a cupcake. I don't remember what it looked like but I ended up throwing it out. That broke my heart. Thankfully, I kept with art in my spare time, and at the time i was taking art classes outside of school, but for a long time I couldn't show my art to anyone. I moved to a different country when I was 11, and at my new school we had proper art classes, but for the most part I still had teachers that weren't very encouraging and didn't know much about art themselves (the school I went to only had two art teachers, and they usually taught the senior school/high school, so I never got them) UNTIL I was 14 and a new art teacher came in. The year before I almost decided to give up with art because I started to believe that I just couldn't do it. Thankfully I decided to continue with art. The new teacher was my favourite art teacher throughout high school. She was so encouraging and helpful and pushed me to constantly improve myself. It was through her that I started to see myself as an artist. I had her for the rest of my high school years, and I was so blessed. I fell in love with art all over again and it was through art that I started to find confidence in myself and it was through art that I made some of my best friends. I just graduated from high school in 2018 and I ended up getting top in my painting class, and I'm currently waiting for my scholarship art results. While I'm not studying art at university, I'm definitely going to continue with it, and hopefully make some money off it. I would have never gotten to this point if I hadn't kept at it, and continuing with my art. And I would have never kept with it if not for my art teacher. If not for her, I would have had the artist beat out of me, and I honestly can't imagine what it would be like if that had happened to me
@svvansong6 жыл бұрын
!!! this!! when I was at school we were taught basically just to pump out as much as we could each year to get a grade and we weren't being critiqued on our style/artistic influence etc. I got so sick of not improving but being forced to produce anyway and gave it up. Now I struggle to draw anything without being hyper-critical and quitting halfway through :(((

same here. Teacher (REPEATEDLY) - "its very cartoonish" me: why? cos i can actually do linework, unlike anyone else in this class? It's been real bro, yall have fun! Peace!" (bounces outta there). I wonder how many of her students STILL make art these days....hmmmm

Mechanical pencil advantages over regular pencils: You can switch out lead softness on the fly, the tip is *always* sharp, and often they have a better grip - the more expensive ones even have little latex or rubber grips specifically to be better to hold and draw with. I only use regular pencils for life and model drawings, because there the degradation of the tip and the ability to angle it for thick shading and such is a plus.

The secret to art is just knowing where to put lines. It sounds a lot easier than it is, but you can really see it here at 32:47, just the difference it makes with the bottom eye curling up into the almond shape vs the bottom eye lash makes you realize it.

@TheKroganMaster6 жыл бұрын
Well to be fair a few plotlines of characters were dropped in C1 since the guess weren't the main protags. As for her in general, I know she got married...so it could have to do with that? Mayne she moved on to other projects or what have you. I think I hear them speak in a good tone of her during C2 at some point...so I think there is no ill will.
@Ziergon6 жыл бұрын
When they introduced the art for C2 they stated that Kit, the C1 artist was great, but they wanted to give someone else the opportunity to be the C2 artist. It spreads the recognition and gives each "season" a distinct look. If/when C3 happens, they will almost certainly be picking a third artist. As for her character, Lillith, she was a guest played by someone from the UK. The logistics involved in getting her back are such that expecting her to have a full fleshed out character arc is a bit optimistic. I mean, they can barely get Ash-o-ley on, and she's "main cast."

I'm currently working on progress drawings to show someone starting out in art, and I will definitely refer them to this video. I just kept forgetting to continue working on it
@kuroinokitsune4 жыл бұрын
sorry for answering on so old comment but "neck starts at ear" not only stylistic thing - it is anatomical. Sternocleidomastoid attaches right behind ear and from most points of view forms neck shape. So for someone with small amount of body fat it will be heavily noticeable. I do thing that it is useful to know where artists "rules" come from, and the comment mainly for future readers, sorry if I somehow insulted you, that was not the intention

I loved drawing as a kid. My mom is an artist, and she always incentivated us, and i continued doing it. I've been depressed since i was 11, and through 11-15 i'd just draw everyday, usually harry potter characters (which is ironic because jkr is a terf and im a trans dude). But im a very insecure person, and my brother and his girlfriend at the time were extremely critic, and even though they gave me suggestions bc they wanted to help me, my insecure ass became afraid of mistakes to the point of me, now, pratically ruining a sheet of paper everytime i draw bc i spend hours drawing and erasing a single line. in quarentine, i basically stopped drawing due to that and the lack of motivation to do anything. ive tried a few times, watching some guides and youtubers, but i just started having anxiety crisis and gave up. seeing this, knowing that i'd draw a character i like while watching marisha, who i love, i decided to give it a shot. it's def not good, but i didnt give up in the process and that's something. babs is a great drawer and an amazing teacher, and this might just be what i needed to get back to drawing.
