I went to the Seattle show last week with my friend who I was in friends-with-benefits situation with, and the Paper Kites did this cover. After the show I listened to the Adrienne Lenker version and listened to the lyrics- the soft, undramatic depiction of quiet feminine love. “I want to sleep in your car while you’re driving. Lay in your lap when I’m crying”. I’m trans, and growing up I never had a chance to think about romance from a feminine perspective. Hearing lyrics in a love song that line up with my lived experience, that made me feel safe and hopeful and warm, was a really big deal to me. It made me realize how lucky I am to have this guy in my life, and for him to care for me in a way that I never thought I would get to have. Anyway, we’re dating now! I’m glad a video of the cover is out there. ❤
