Thats cuz the way puns work is that you find words that sound similar and use them in a funny way and it'll only work if its related to the current topic and/or if it makes sense... And as someone who can kinda speak in three languages, the rules are pretty much the same for any language

Blessed be the Japanese language use of syllabary and not alphabets that makes it so incredibly predisposed to puns. As a Malay speaker -- a language that is excellent for prose and poetry but is almost bereft of puns -- I sometimes truly feel like I'm missing out on a whole world of knee-slappers and golfclap-worthy punchlines from never learning Japanese.

@@PerfectDeath4 that is the case, Japanese grammar is something else while Chinese can have 4 diff words that sound the same but each have different meaning resulting in thousands of words on top of diff combo words can have way too many different meanings. An upside of Japanese is that kanji is basically just Chinese words with a slight diff meaning and pronunciation but most the same so sometimes its not hard to guess wat the Japanese meant by hearing or reading. English wasn't my first language, mandarin was so I know how hard it was to learn English which resulted in my decline of mandarin to the point of only mostly speaking and reading to certain extent and completely forgetting how to write it.
