I'm not sure, but I think we have all witnessed the birth of a new Pentaholic, which means one who has become addicted to the sounds of Pentatonix. Congratulations! They are an awesome 3 time Grammy award winning accapella singing group. Now, did you realize that they are speaking of a nuclear attack by singing- tens of thousands hearing without listening, people writing songs that no one shared. Then there was the blinding of the light separating the night. And those that went through it writing on the subway walls and tenement halls, to warn future generations as Prophets. I knew you would love them. They all have different vocal ranges, except Mitch, the man with the higher voice. And Kevin the beatboxer also has a wonderful tenor voice.

FYI: There is no lead & there are no egos in this group. They equally share the spotlight when a song calls for it. Their layers add amazing depth to a song. What makes them unique is that EACH of them has such a wide vocal range. Kevin is the inventor of cello-boxing (playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time)! SO MANY GREAT songs to choose from! You could start with their 3 Grammy wins: Daft Punk Medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, or Jolene!

Welcome to the new world of a capella. Pentatonix and Home Free have rewritten the book on a capella worldwide. All of the suggestions for more songs to listen to are great. Pentatonix has 3 Grammys, one for their "Daft Punk Medley" (Daft Punk), one for their "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (Tchaikovsky), and one for basically being Dolly Parton's backup band(?) on "Jolene". Also, try "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen), "Imagine" (John Lennon), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), "Mad World" (Tears for Fears), and of course, any of their Christmas music. For Home Free may I recommend their "Man of Constant Sorrow", "Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash), and my favorite, "Helplessly Hoping" (Crosby, Stills & Nash) (and then a quarantined Italian Youth Choir's cover of Home Free's arrangement).

This type of music is called a cappela/capella. It roughly means "in/of the chapel/church". It generally is purely voice-based and harmonious with no accompanying musical instrumentation. The first and most well-known version of this song, that I know of, is by the American folk-pop duo from the 1960s/1970s named "Simon and Garfunkle". They do a wonderful rendition of this song. Enjoy more of Pentatonix as they are superb!

Yeah that part where you just had to put your head in your hand...that's us Pentaholics for the past 9 years LOLOLOL. Pentatonix (or PTX) are an a cappella group, so the only time they use instruments is when you see Kevin (the beatboxer) playing his cello or they have a couple songs with guest violinist Lindsey Stirling. And yes they do this live. I look forward to you falling down the rabbit hole of PTX. I see someone else requested their mash-up of New Rules x Are You That Somebody...YES that is in my top five favorite PTX songs.

Nice reaction! If you're going to go on the PTX ride, I better let you know now that one of the members, Avi (the person with the dark mustache and beard and provides the bass for the group in earlier videos) is no longer with them and left amicably and was replaced by Matt Sallee(the guy on the far left). Everyone else is still the same. Sometimes the looks of Kirstin (the female of the group) and Mitch(the one who can hit the real high notes) has changed, but it's still them. Scott, the one who started this song first, Kirstin, and Mitch are high school friends and they enlisted Avi and Kevin (the beatboxer and vocal percussionist) to round out their group when they competed on the a cappella competition show called the Sing Off on NBC in 2011. They won the competition and were hailed as the future of a cappella due to their unique takes of popular songs. They currently own 3 Grammy awards and are considered one of the best in the world. Some people still can't believe that they use only their voices and no instruments when they perform. I would recommend for you to listen to their version of Hallelujah. Their KZbin video of Hallelujah currently has over 561 million views!....

Kevin is a beatboxer, he is making the percussion sounds you are hearing. He also plays cello. The middle three all grew up together in texas.

I wouldn't even put this in PTX's top 10 for songs. If you thought that was good, you should react to "Daft Punk" (Won a Grammy for this one), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Kevin's beatboxing is amazing in this), "Hallelujah" (Will leave you in tears), and "Wizard of Ahhhs" (Just simply amazing, don't know what else to say about this). You will not be disappointed. All of these have Avi as their Bass singer (This one has Matt), while Matt is a fantastic bass, Avi is just next level good. He hits notes so low it will rattle your very soul. Other songs they won Grammys for are "Jolene" with Dolly Parton and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy". Note: Please turn up the volume on the song, I could barely hear it.

The guy in the middle, Scott, does not normally sing that low, and took many of us Pentaholics by surprise when he did. The guy on the right, the beatboxer, Kevin, is one of the best beatboxers in the world. The guy on the right, Matt singing bass, is a relatively new member, he replaced Avi, who left to be with his mother who was sick, and to do his own thing. Pentatonix never ever disappoints. Not sure if anyone mentioned this below, but this song was written by Paul Simon and recorded in the 1960’s by Simon & Garfunkel. You might want to listen to that, too. Most people who say they prefer either Disturbed or Pentatonix get spanked by people who know the original version. If you do Imagine by Pentatonix, which is stunning and the video can make you cry, people will insist that the original by John Lennon is impossible to improve upon. But I prefer Pentatonix for Imagine, too.
