It just hit me... I was 12 when this song was first released by Simon and Garfunkel, I grew up with their version, even my parents liked this and the rest of the album. My youngest son played this for me, and altered my music world.

A 1965 song written by Paul Simon re-released in 2015 by Disturbed; datz 50 years later!! This is beyond awesome this is probably the best cover EVER!!! Hands down, my favorite song these past 5 years!! Disturbed's video for this was also knocked out of this Universe... so much emotion, powerful imagery and just an overall amazing performance by a band that most folks had no clue how awesome the singer was!! INCREDIBLE!!! \m/

My interpretation of the song The Sound of Silence. This song is written with two separate people or consciousnesses singing it. Those that are waking up and those that have been awake for a very long time. The first, third and fifth verse is sung from the perspective of the unawakened and the second and forth verse are sung from the perspective of the awakened. Hello, darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence Hello, darkness, my old friend is about people that have been kept in the dark and they're telling the darkness that they are experiencing something new in their vision. They (the awakened/aware ones) planted the seeds of truth/Light, and they are just starting to become aware. In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a streetlamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence There are fewer of the awakened, and they feel as if they are alone under the Light of truth, because they refused to by into the lies the dark has been trying to feed them. Then one day they saw a crack in the armor of dark, a tear in the matrix, if you will and in that moment they saw a opportunity to break the sound of silence. And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share No one dared Disturb the sound of silence And in that moment they saw all of the light workers/star seeds (awakened Ones) telling those that were still asleep the truth/Light, through telepathy those that were sleeping heard and saw the truth/Light in a very subtle way, but yet they couldn't share this Light/truths with anyone for fear of being attacked by those that controlled the sound of silence. They wrote the truth in songs, the truth had to be give covertly as not to disturb the sound of silence (the dark). And when the people became aware of theLight/truth and realized that they had been in darkness the whole time, it really pissed them off. "Fools," said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you." But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence They reached out to those still in slumber, trying to give them Light/truths, but they wouldn't open their minds to new truths, instead remained in the sound of silence. And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence." The people were so caught up in working hard to pay for all of the things, the boats, cars, electronics, all of the toys that they covet. They couldn't see or hear the truth, they were too distracted by consumerism. The awakened/prophets have been trying to tell them through their songs and poems, and that whisper of Light/truth awakened the people from their slumber and they became ONE. Did you notice the ship sailing into the Light at the end of the studio version?

I had always loved this song by Simon and Garfunkel. However when I heard this version I was immediately moved to goosebumps and tears! It touches my Soul in the way that says we, as humans, are failing! We fail our planet, we disregard each other and we worship idols of wrong doing. LISTEN AND HEAR! Change may already be too late

The original song was a warning to society. That version of the song was in the folk music genre back then. Just the singers and a guitar. This version of the song creates more emotions from the listeners. Because each verse they add more instruments and more expression, letting the song build and build. David's voice lets out more frustration and anger as the song goes on. I love your reaction to this. For someone that is bilingual you got the emotions being expressed to you very well. That's the beautiful thing about music, it is universal. They have always had one cover tune (remake) every CD. This one just happens to be the newest one. Disturbed is one of my favorite bands. Being from Chicago, I got to support my local musicians. "Down with the Sickness", "Prayer", "Remember", "Inside the Fire", "Stupify", "Are you ready" are all songs they wrote themselves and I think you would enjoy reacting to. Thanks for your reaction.

Hi This just popped up on my page & thought I'd see what you thought of it. Decided to subscribe as well. Great reaction & Don't worry about letting your emotions flow, Pretty much anyone & everyone who has listened/watched this video cover of the song has lost it with their emotions overtaking everything else. Way back in the 60's when first released it was deep with how life was headed into this direction. When David & Disturbed did this cover, His voice is priceless & the passion he put into it is really deep! My thoughts are that we as a human race never listened to the original msg when Paul wrote & Performed it. David's performance is showing the frustration, that we haven't learned from it & maybe even fallen deeper behind. Thank you for doing this & Super happy that you enjoyed it. Please take care, While always keeping safe! Kevin from Canada

Disturbed is not like other Metal bands, they aren’t afraid to open up dialog about taboo subjects and a lot of their music does have deep meanings. You should check out Remember, Stupify, Down with the Sickness, a Reason to Fight, Hold on to Memories, The Light, Who Taught You how to Hate, Inside the Fire, Save Our Last Goodbye, If I Ever Lose My Faith In You, and Prayer. Enjoyed your reaction 👍🏼

Inside the Fire needed to be higher on that list. David said the it is "a real racy song... about me standing over the body of my girlfriend, who just killed herself, and the Devil is standing over me, whispering in my ear to kill myself." knowing the meaning behind the song makes it a lot deeper than it seems at first glance

David Draiman made one subtle lyric change from the original. He changed "And the sign flashed out its warning" to " And the sign LASHED out its warning." A small yet powerful change, and one that fits this version of the song to well.

People have misconceived ideas of metal singers. The majority of them have vocal ranges others don't. From a young age David trained as a Cantor. He has amazing control in both low and high register. He's had a very long career and a performance like this, and other gentle songs show he has not damaged his vocal cords as a "metal" artist....basically proving he knows his instrument. He has a true gift and we are lucky enough to experience it. Watch some of his interviews, very soft spoken, down to earth and funny. Also check out vids of him singing this A cappella.

Ms. Eve, darlin', you really don't need to try and find the words... Your facial and body reactions said everything you couldn't find the words for... That's the beautiful perfection of this song... This song basically does one thing, it touches you... It slowly brings you in, you can feel it building, in the end, all of his angst, anger and rage are released in an epic passionate crescendo... Pure perfection... Paul Simon (songs author) thought so as well...

As a youngster in the 60's and 70's I remember hearing and liking the original 1964 Simon & Garfunkel version on the radio a lot but it was mainly their harmonies that I liked. It wasn't until I heard Disturbed's version that I really became aware of and finally paid attention to the lyrics. To me, it's like David Draiman was telling us, in a rightfully angry tone, that we hadn't listened to what Paul was telling over 50 ago. I can admit that as a man in my 60s, that when I heard this version of the song, it quickly became my all-time favorite, replacing my long time favorite Nights In White Satin/Late Lament by the Moody Blues, which is often (incorrectly) labeled as something like "Nights in White Satin full version" including in my favorite fan-created video for it which if you want to do a reaction video, you can watch it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iamblWBjqtiKgas

You should also react to the original version, written and performed by Simon and Garfunkel way back in the 1960s. It is much different from this angry version. It is soft, melodic, a bit sad with great harmony between their two voices. It is said that their original was a warning of things to come, but this version expresses rage that the warning was not heeded.

I consider this song the second best cover ever done Distrubed interuptation is so well matched with the content. The only one better is Johnny Cash - Hurt. If you haven't done/heard it you really should it is incredibly emotional as well.

David has a pitch perfect voice. I wish the music was at least as loud as your voice.

Just give yourself over to the experience, tears and all. Don't rob yourself of the depth and power in your own soul by shrinking away from the journey for fear or vanity. Let yourself feel completely.

I'm watching your channel for the 1st time as you react to Disturbed and I loved it. They are one of my favorite bands. Thanks for your review. I love your emotions!! Can I please ask if you can react to the song MY IMMORTAL by the group Evanescence? I think you will find it equally emotional as the song is beautiful and you will hear another lovely voice that will touch your heart. Thanks and keep smiling🎶🎵🤘☺

You must listen the song without stop it from the beginning until the end. If you stop the song, you stop the feelings and u can't understand the true meaning of the song.

This has become a standard for the band, always expected at their live gigs! David and his brother were classically trained singers. He turned to metal and his brother is an opera singer. Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about. The video I feel talks of the rediscovery of lost music. One island find the sheet music, the other find the instruments and travel to them... Paul Simon saw THIS very performance on Conan and loved it. Poor David was really poorly with a bad cold when he sung it on Conan, so I urge you to watch the official video to hear David in top form and the visuals really add to the music. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJyag4mtaK5rm8k Check these interviews with David... kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKWxl6qlgKljjqM kzbin.info/www/bejne/baauiXuui550i8U The official video... kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2qnmGCdbNllopY The original Simon and Garfunkel version... kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHKooaN8irx_nMU Pentatonix did an amazing version of Disturbed’s version of this song... kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZW5m4mqpddoa68 One of Disturbed’s classic tunes!!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmqvhYdmrdyXnNk

2 things about this first you should listen to the Original Simon and Garfunkel from 1964, and next listen to Disturb's "Down with the Sickness" to get a much better appreciation for what David did here

Simon and Garfunkel were the original in the 60s. It is a comment on our commercial world full of light and lack of communication between individuals. Even back then. And now, even more so.
FIRST TIME LISTENING TO DISTURBED - "SOUND OF SILENCE" ...OMG!!!
