This review of the EVGA GTX 1660 Ti XC looks at NVIDIA's newest GPU in the ~$280 market, facing off versus Vega 56, the RX 590, and the GTX 1060 or RTX 2060.
Ad: Buy Gigabyte's Z390 Master motherboard (geni.us/eIQnI on Amazon)

The GTX 1660 Ti releases today, at time of publication, and most directly succeeds the GTX 1060 6GB. The card competes with the RX 590 and RX Vega 56, falling below the RTX 2060 in performance. The 1660 Ti also gets rid of the RTX features and RT / Tensor cores, which assists in price positioning.
Cards tested include the RTX 2060, GTX 1660 Ti vs. GTX 980 Ti, GTX 970, RX Vega 56, GTX 1060, and many, many more.

so we see that nvidia will only offer realistic prices when they have a competitor. and amd are nowhere to be found above the 2060 level. and dont say vega 7 because its sold out because they only made a couple. and the vega cards are cheap now but only because they are clearing out stock and wont make anymore. i swear every day i become more and more certain that amd and nvidia are working together to not compete with each other and instead choosing to try to poach what they can out of intels marketshare. i think thats why intel is coming otu with a gpu. they finally caught on to it. i mean lisa su and jensen are cousins after all

This is probably a random comment, but I've just found your channel as I'm rebuilding a PC and have begun finding all new channels on KZbin the have blown up since I last built a PC (Quite a few years ago), and while this may seem like a minor detail, the "countdown" bar on the side of your stats has made me hit sub button. Its a great feature in your videos or in at least this video, that allows me to watch and listen without the stress of missing certain information and having to rewind and stop and start your video. I might not have articulated it well, but its one of those small things that adds way more than it probably took to implement. Looking forward to more of your videos!

"REEEEEEEEEEEEE MORE EXPENSIVE. HUAHUAHURAWRLUL SAME PRICE AS 1070!" MSRPs: $30 more than a 1060 6GB. $100 less than a 1070. Performs about on par with a 1070. Math says 1070 performance for $100 less than a 1070. Current pricing: Pascal cards are a few years old. Of course they're cheaper now. There's always the used market argument. Always. You could get a 980 Ti for about the price of a 1060 6GB if you tried hard enough, and the 980 Ti will win. Not everyone wants to buy used, even though they should consider it. Did we get a Maxwel to Pascal-esque jump? No. But we got more than the nothing people are making it out to be. And that's better than Intel could do with their CPUs from Sandy Bridge to Kaby Lake, and better than AMD could do in terms of pricing Vega 56 against the 1070 at launch.
@joeallen7781

@enemy boat After the same two years all AMD offers you is rehashed 480s with overclock aka 590 for 280$, or Vega room heaters. For those 280$ nvidia has 1660ti that smashes a 590, beats a Vega 56 if OCed, draws nearly half the power, and all this while Nvidia pretty much is just competing with themselves. Thanks Nvidia, you didn't have to.

Triple slot, single fan graphics card? What the ef, EVGA? Edit: I think I figured out why they're doing that. Given Nvidia's severe restriction on power target and max TDP, they are trying to save some wattage by reducing the number of fans on the cooler, which results in a larger (Thicker) heat sink compared to a regular two slot design. That's the only logical explanation.

Single-fan, triple slot makes no sense to me. A sinle-fan card's main application is in SFF systems, but most of the mITX cases on the market now don't even have space to even mount a triple I/O plate, regardless of the thickness of the card. Just two openings. It's ridiculous.
@Mike_Hogsheart
@Mike_Hogsheart 5 жыл бұрын
It could also be a consideration of width vs. length. Could be really useful in some ITX cases, although not every case will support triple slot, obviously. Ultimately, I think it is good to have all kinds of different form factors for graphics cards, more choice tends to be better.

Vega 56 has been on sale for $300 plenty of times now, it overclocks like a champ, it's within margin of error of an overclocked vega 64, trades blows with 1080/2060, sometimes 2070. If you undervolt and overclock V56 powerconsumption drops down to about 180-200 watts, it's not that powerhungry. It doesn't consistently beat 1080 & 2060 for average FPS but it does consistently beat both for 1% lows, which let's be honest, that's what you can actually see/notice. I wouldn't buy a 1660 over a V56. 50 watts/hour is liek $5/year

R.I.P 1050ti !! Been gimping along for 3 years with it even after upgrading the CPU and Mobo last year. Looked at the Vega 56 now priced at $379 on amazon which is about the same price as the 2060 now. Ray Tracing for gaming is most likely 1-2 years away if it makes it into gaming at all. I'm thinking it will most likely be used for CAD, You Tubers, video editing, and other such things. So for now, with the GPU market having sooo many new products (and yet to be released), the GTX 1660 Ti looks to be at the right price point and performance for most casual gamers needing upgrades to the latest GPU boards. Excellent job on your evaluation of the 1660 Ti.

I haven’t seen a good high level review and benchmark of the new nvenc encoder with OBS when compared to old 10 series cards. Do you guys have any plans to mess with it? I think it’s a decent selling point for nvidia and could make a difference to a potential buyer of a 20 series card if it performs much better while streaming.

Ok i just chechked prices in europe (geizhals eu) and the Us (Pc partpicker, mircrocenter etc.) and the 1660ti is ~ 21% more expensive than the 590 so the value of those cards is pretty much the same. Vega 56 blowers are found for 5% less and dual fan cards for 5% and triple fan cards for about 10-15% more. - that said you shouldnt buy either of those cards cause you can get a 580 8GB which can be oced to a 590 for as little as 165 bucks. If you just want performance or if you like ocing/playing around with your card go far a vega.

If you have the dough, why shouldn't you buy this 1660 Ti or Vega 56? They are stronger cards than 580. You should always get the best you can afford and have use for, within reason (I don't think the RTX prices are reasonable, but some think otherwise, and it's their right to do so). Of course if your screen is 1080p 60Hz, getting 2080 or Vega VII, let alone 2080 Ti might seem like a waste. But then again, people who can afford those cards likely won't game on such a basic screen, at least not due to lacking money to invest in a monitor. In the end PC gaming is entertainment for most people, so any money used in it is superfluous money, sort of, on top of the money needed for living. If having a kickass video card makes you feel good, go for it. That's what it's all about.

I was using PC normally no overclocks etc then it just turned off, and automatically restarted but had no display, I tried the troubleshooting by manufacturer but the card is definitely broken even though another one in that slot works. I may well end up upgrading to a 2060 from my 980ti in the near future, because it'd be good to have something fresh that doesn't warm up my room (with newer features and support.) You are falling for their marketing psychology real hard. That is exactly why they priced the 1660Ti so high while also removing regular performance. The drop from 2060 is a lot more than just the RT and Tensor cores. At their greediest this glorified 2050 should have been priced at $230~$250, but they destroyed everyone's perception of value so much with their RTX cards already that they figured they can get away with $280. And they actually are for some reason. Just because they overpriced their entire lineup horribly doesn't mean spending even more than you planned to is a "better value". "even if (for example) the 2080Ti had the same price/performance" Now that's a dumb thing to say cause it's never going to happen and you just made that up for your own sake.
