So many youtube creators/vloggers are bordering on Dependent Personality Disorder. As their platform grows, they start to live vicariously through the persona they project online, over which they have greater control (content, editing, scheduling etc.) The real self becomes subordinate to the online self, becoming increasingly reliant on positive feedback (likes, comments, subscribers) for validation and a sense of self-worth. It's a feedback loop which can lead to paranoia, an inability to deal with criticism and, in many cases, a persecution complex. Competitive comparison to similar content is inevitable. People with fragile egos should refrain from Youtubing. What starts out as a bit of fun can turn into an unhealthy obsession and a vacuous substitute for reality. A similar thing happens in 'chat rooms', niche forums and other social media that employ 'likes' as an incentive to participate.

I unsubscribed from SF a few months ago. I got sick of his preaching, selling his shite, and his political ranting. I also found that when I disagreed with him or asked something that didn't suit him, I got blanked. It's a shame really. I just wanted to find stuff out. Although I'm 59, I've only been riding about 2 years! I stopped watching his posts on a regular basis but I did watch a few. So when I saw his BSA sales pitch. It made me laugh. He obviously had a backhander. It was blatant! Especially when he said they weren't so good when they came out. 😂 The fact is, BSA has very few dealerships and they've lost a few already. They look nice and I hope they sort things out but it's not looking good!

Hey Matt. Just like to point out that adults absolutely can get bullied; you touched on it a bit later when you say that abuse is a power relationship. With that in mind, perhaps Alex is right, as Shillingham was and is using his perceived power as a "big time youtuber" to try and shut down a much smaller channel. It's a typical ex-police approach, strangely enough. And as I type this, you're going into full ACAB mode :)

There are many cases where adults get bullied - hundreds of thousands of beaten and downtrodden wives (and husbands) worldwide can attest to that. It's the exact same abuse of a power relationship that entails physical abuse of children and / or bullying. I'm not saying that Alex is being bullied here, although Shillingham is definitely trying to flex his "power" as a "big time" youtuber to shut him up. It takes a lot more than that for it to be bullying. I am definitely an adult, and don't have a childish mentality. I have been bullied, however, abuse of a power relationship at at work which caused me to leave a job I very much loved and was invested in, a job that I'd been doing for 10 years and was fucking good at. A situation bad enough that 5 years on, I am still unwilling to take one of the several full time jobs I've been offered, including one that's basically what I was doing before, and instead do seasonal work because I'm not locked in, I can just walk away. About 4 years of depression involved in that little episode, and I only got through it with help from friends. I can give you chapter and verse if you like...

You are obviously smart and knowledgeable about bikes but personally I would prefer more videos from you on practical skills and explanations rather than alot of time spent criticising others. Dave Moss is popular because there is nobody else better putting out suspension set up videos 🤷‍♂️. Let’s see how it’s done please people are desperate for quality information.

Dave has lots of videos showing how to set sag up and setting the rebound and compression, videos short on clear information and long on fluff yes. That’s what I used to set up my bike because that’s all there is, no one else has produced a clear instructional video on suspension setup that I have seen with more information. And I’ve looked. Your video linked is on repairing a tank??
