You guys haven't been sending enough pizza slices to my PO Box to sustain my eating habits. Therefore this video has ADS. Remember this is all your fault, thank you for watching. On the CONTRARY I have gotten a record number of beanie babies. Thank you. I am now opening up my PO Box to vintage presidential buttons. Thank you. PO BOX 206, Parlin, NJ 08859

Great video, my rule of thumb for compression is if the sound source is already compressed the less I use, the less compressed the source is the more I use. That’s why your point about compression on vocals is so good, other than tape compression on a vocal track, the human voice can’t compress like a guitar or bass amp.

Hey Mario. What do you think about those Shure Preamps (on your shelve)? Are they any good? I'm running a little all-analogue 4-Track-homestudio in Germany and can get a pair of them for a fair price. Great video!

how do you do about recording alone? I usually start by recording the drums while humming the tune to myself, then layer everything on top but this is kind of a PITA sometimes since I usually have to mix and crush down the drums before i carry on, and sometimes mess up the arrangement without realizing (using a 4 track). I’d love to start with a scratch guitar track but then my timing goes all out of wack and i use up a track. Any tips on putting together a track on your own? How do you go about it?
@Mario_DiSanto
@Mario_DiSanto 3 ай бұрын
I use the same methods as you. Almost always I use a scratch guitar track and I round off any slight timing issues with my drum track as I do my initial tracking. Sometimes my scratch guitar track is good enough, has some slight inconsistencies that I keep because it sounds more like a live room recording, or I am just lazy. Really depends. Having steady timing is obviously essential.

Don't listen to jabronis online telling you what gear is worth it or not. Honestly I wouldn't get too caught up with what's the best for sound anyway. In a home recording studio the most important thing is RELIABILITY. If you aren't having someone professionally service your equipment, the best thing to do is get something without issues. The mixer I have (Tascam M-3500), has some popping issues in the main channel that I have been trying to narrow down what's causing this since I first got the mixer. I could care less what the sound of the pre amps get me because the acoustics in my home negate any minor differences I am going to get with a better board. Save your money and get something mild in price. If you are serious about music recording you can upgrade further down the line. Good deals will come eventually...

yeah good advice, the thing that worries me is those caps in 30 year old desk start getting leaky. I already been stung once...got a half working british board sountracs...a fool and his money are easily parted. I do a bit of electronics but i don't have skills to mess with mains voltages...i stick to pedals. Electronics repair dudes charge a fortune these days...think i will look at some more recent mackie onyx and stuff. i don't make money from music..i spend money...happy to do it, but i want the best value gear..that will let me twiddle knobs and be happy.music is life dude. rock on bro, love this channel. do some whacky vids with your buddy :)
