Dad taught me to change the gear lube every season too. It's not an expensive prevention that gives peace of mind. I move from there to the wheel bearings and make a lube session complete including the trailer tongue parts that latch on the hitch.

Yearly maintenance might take some time to do, but man does it feel good when it's done and you know you're ready for the next season. This motor took about $60 in gear lube thanks to it requiring the high performance lube!

@tomspontoons Mine also. On occasion, I'll find it on sale or can apply a discount coupon towards it. Then, I will buy up as much as I can handle. Even still, if I have to pay the regular cost, it is aat a time of year when cabit fever is being shaken off the bones.

What’s the deal with the 2 big holes in the toon? Did you cut that open to drain water or is that factory? Do you use some kind of plug or weld aluminum back on it?

It’s a Bennington, but super common among tritoon brands to allow water in and out of the rear 4-6’ of the transom toon. Hurts buoyancy by filling, but it drains out once on plane. Otherwise there’d have to be a cavity with bilge pump if sealed up.

Happy to share them!! We know plenty of folks out there want to do this maintenance stuff themselves to save some dough so we might as well help out.
