Yeah seeing his trailer for the first time pretty much locked that in for me. Also explains why those DLC newcomers felt like they were from a different game. Everything from the animations to their mechanics just felt like too much for T7's old bones and they were a balancing nightmare because of it. Leroy, Fahk, Kuni Jr, Lidia are all Tekken 8 characters. Leroy having the least amount of additions and changes so far of any revealed characters(and having stuff that was nerfed/changed in T7) also sort of hammers this home to me. I'm pretty sure we weren't even supposed to have the last two season these characters were in anyway.

honestly alot of the drama around socd and leverless controller shortcuts is that the company hitbox main advertising is showing how hard you can shortcut, not helped by sfv's input handler, like they're announcement for the update firmware should of been like junkfood aracde's were its like "yeah we will be relaesing a firmware update" but hitbox is like "ah you see we believe in god's truth of up + down = up but since you want it your way look how much you can cheat look at this its actually worse than our godly ways"

I didn't personally notice any problems with the venue or the event until finals day happened and there was the big delay over the display lag issue. I wore a coat and hauled my fightstick backpack around and yet never overheated or ran out of breath. That wasn't heat or steam floating around the room, those were hints of fog machines that were there to help make the spotlight beams pop. The SF pool I was in was ran fairly smoothly and with a minimum of delays aside from the wait for several people who signed up but never showed up. I went out with a 2-2 record on day one so I didn't get to personally experience the day two brackets mistake. And I managed to get food at the venue, although I did have to walk a bit to the other side of the convention center and that restaurant closed its entrance door several minutes after I arrived. Though, to be fair, the entirety of my majors tournament experience has been Evo Japan. I've been to all four of these but have never once been to Las Vegas. That thing you mention about how the entire pool is run off a single station? That's been the norm every time I've been over here. The concept of a single pool taking up four stations at once simultaneously never occurred to me. That said, I'm fairly sure they're going to optimize. This was the first Evo Japan in three years and also the first one under Sony's ownership, so plenty of learning experiences to make the next one better. That and I find the whole thing is a great excuse to take an overall vacation in Japan. When spending so much on airfare, I prefer to stretch it out to at least a couple weeks to explore all around the place, rather than coming in for the tournament and flying home once it's done.

RE: SOCD - Brian_F showing the vid that Hitbox made where they're able to spam Hulk's ground projectile in MvC3 by holding both directions and spamming attacks when there was no input cleaning on either side was eye-opening.

Instead of releasing a new version of the game, Code Mystics will probably announce a free upgrade with rollback in the future like they did with their other games pre-rollback.

About Leroy being designed for T8. I considered that as well. I'm almost positive they would've been developing T8 around the time they introduced Leroy in T7. We know Season 3 and 4 weren't expected/planned. To me, it makes sense that they were working on T8, then they were like "Woah, Tekken 7 is still doing well, let's just work on that on the side" then they take some T8 newbies, and dumb them down a bit for T7, and boom. Possibly how we got Leroy, Fahk, and Lydia.

For SOCD, there's not technical reason why controllers couldn't send non-clean inputs, and then just make it a requirement that for your leverless controller to be tourney legal, it has a toggle that switches from cleaned inputs for older games that don't handle SOCD properly, and non-cleaned for games that do and the dev can handle the SOCD rules.

I attended Evo jp for the third time this weekend. After seeing the feedback of the main Evo, I was very excited for evo JP. But it was almost the same thing from before. I attended the Garou side tourney and it was great. But outside the tournament we didn't have much to do. SNK had some cool stuff, like autograph sessions. Tekken 8 had a booth, but the only people that were allowed in were selected in a lottery somewhere. Why bring your game to an open event if people are not allowed in?

The main problem with Capcom SOCD "fix" is that it pushed the strength of hitbox from the 1 charge to command characters Socd true neutral basically let's you do every real motion faster with more confidence. Mainly because hitbox negative edging direction buttons is real problem. It's faster to press up to "release" down then it to release down. So the 639 dp shortcut they thought they removed is now 63"6" which works even better With only a inconvenience towards fuzzy jump. Since SF doesn't have superjump.

@6:55 This is such a strange argument to me, obviously the only reason we have SOCD cleaners in our controllers is because some games don't clean the inputs correctly, if a game resolves SOCD itself then there's no reason to do it in hardware, especially if the game has special SOCD rules (like SF apparently now does). I think if different games end up having different SOCD rules the community will have no choice but to go to no hardware cleaning, it's just way too difficult to make sure your controller is always up to date and working between games.

the socd issue is dumb for the simple reason that all online play will play as normal, local and online tourneys will play as normal, only capcom cup will have this arbitrary rule that makes the game pretty different for some characters. If this was a change in the code that was even across the board then whatever, however the inconsistency is going to hurt the game.

My only main concern with Project L is 1. Will this come to console 2. Will we have to use the Riot Client. Because I don't mind playing Project L and running it but if I have to install the Riot Client with it's disturbing anti cheat embedding itself into the OS, then I'll pass.

The anti cheat is only for Valorant, so you’ll be fine. They don’t require it for any of their other games. Riot would be foolish to have this game be PC only. I would imagine it’s going to come to all platforms with crossplay enabled, considering SF6 and Tekken are doing that too

The only thing that I really think is stupid about the CPT rule change regarding leverless controllers (and this was unavoidable, really) is that just normal Playstation controllers are exempt from this input cleaning rule. Obviously, Capcom understood that trying to force this change on pad players was a losing proposition.

As I understand, that’s not the case. PlayStation controllers didn’t do the hardware level cleaning that Hitbox did, so the game saw L+R and U+D when you did those things, then the software level cleaning took over. So as I understand, there’s not gonna be pad specific tech, it will universally be U+D=N and L+R=N

Summoner skill might work like the zords in power rangers, which they have other similarities to. Edit - I play on leverless and I personally would rather it work the way capcom is making it. I lift my finger off down anyway and I can imagine using the new shortcuts. Having said that, as long as I'm in compliance I don't care because I didn't buy this for shortcuts, I just like the feeling of precision I personally feel with it. Idk why hitbox markets how they do, I don't think most of us bought it for shortcuts. But it sure does have some surprising people completely committed to us all as cheaters.

I've been on hitbox for over a decade, largely because I have nerve damage that makes sticks or pads painful to use, and the SOCD ruling is far from nothing. it's going to make charge characters miserable to use and failure prone (moreso than on stick) and it's really only happening because old players who hate anything new whined and whined. I don't even want to think about doing leona max mode combos if I have to make sure I'm perfectly releasing down with my left hand every time. the SOCD flash kicks are not deciding games. you can't think those are cheating but also that 4 frame supers and neutral tricks don't matter. what about the wave dashes and standing 720s that are easier on stick, do we get to demand those get nerfed too?

I’ve lost a lot of hope for Project L. It just seems like they have no solid concept of what they want their game to be. It’s been 7 years since they went to Riot. Why are they still trying to decide if they want summoner spells and comeback mechanics? They had a lot of groundwork done with the direction and design of Rising Thunder. Never thought I’d be waiting 8 years or so to see this game come out.
