Mario galaxy had undoubtedly the best iteration of the airships. They weren't just kinda there. They actually attacked and showed just how evil bowser could get. And that flag made things just that much better.

I always loved how the SMW level is a crashed and submerged airship from Mario 3, it's not just one of the most creative ghost levels the franchise ever had but gives a sense of continuity that the Mario series doesn't usually have

the air ship levels are always weird logically to me... like the overworks sprites for the airships look like actual pirate boats but then when you play the actual levels it’s a mass of random wooden platforms with random cannons and lasers n shit it’s so weird Atleast in the Mario 3 show they address it cause in the show they actually look like masses of shit except they’re connected in a ship-like shape. I guess Mario galaxy makes it more understandable that your actually jumping from different airships instead of random shits,but that still doesn’t justify the fact that the overworld sprites in other Mario games look like ONE complete boat
