Some of these are more "non-standard game over" than necessarily "bad ending", but honestly those are just as interesting. After all, everyone knows how to get a regular game over. Depending on the game you either just let your HP/Team's HP hit 0, or you run out of lives. And then you continue from your last save. But a non-standard one... you either die in a special place or way. Or choose the wrong dialogue option. For those curious, I feel that non-standard game overs and bad ends are slightly different in that a bad end will be when you reach the ending of a game but haven't reached the right criteria for a good/true ending. For example, inthe first Pikmin, you get the bad ending if you run out of days and haven't collected enough of the lost ship parts. Sometimes this could also be losing to the final boss, tho. I feel that is harder to categorize as either, especially since a non-standard game over could be seen as a bad end. Banzo-Kazooie is another example hard to categorize, since you get the game over screen from just quitting the game.

I didn’t even think it was possible to get 4th place in super mario kart. I remember seriously trying to as a kid and all it did was bump me to 3rd. I knew it was possible in mk64 which is the whole reason I tried to in smk. Ironic that it’s harder to deliberately try and get 4th than to try and get first.
