@@half-dusted it's not nostalgia. They changed the escalators to conveyor belts with clear colour and arrow indicators. The parking lot outside has embarrassingly low detail. The cars outside don't move. Choco mountain they made easier. Apart from those 2 tracks, the others they remade better than their original counterparts. As for the original MK8 deluxe maps the only one they made worse was N64 Rainbow Road. It's way easier now and only 1 lap.

The newest version feels so oversaturated with color. it no longer feels like an actual mall. the arrows make it seem less real, and I liked the challenge of figuring out which escalator was which at a glance. The cars with the miis are also something I miss, having your plan to use the boosters foiled because they backed dup onto it at the last moment added to the fun, unlike here, where they hardly seem to be a challenge.

I hate how Nintendo keeps dumbing down the game with every single installment… like the damn escalators for instance. Part of the fun was in the wii was being like ‘damn I chose the wrong escalator I’m gonna lose my lead/have to catch up now’. I mean it definitely looks prettier don’t get me wrong, but I just wish they’d let us figure things out like they used to. MKWII was a gem with all the unintentional shortcuts, and learning how to work around the items that were not as random or chaotic as they are now. They replaced FIBs with coins……?!?!?! Like FIBs wouldn’t protect you from items but you could at least drop them around a sharp corner as a trap, coins are just…. Everything in that game was fun because everything was strategic and calculated, ESPECIALLY when you got in a good lobby. Could play for hooouurrss.

It just makes me mad that in every iteration the cars at the end of track become less hazardous. Wii had 3 of them moving back and forth that hurt you when you collide, with boost panels to really make timing crucial. Then 7 reduced them to 2 cars that are really spaced out. Then finally MK8, where it's 2 STATIONARY, angled cars that don't even hurt you.

Like adding proper grass textures to Toad Circuit and Shroom Ridge, or adding the moving cars back to Coconut Mall. This would be the ideal Coconut mall in my opinion if it had the moving cars. I just realized in the Wii version, there’s tons of characters in the background, Miis and Delfino plaza characters. The place also looks bigger and has more logos around the level. Now the new versions looks really lifeless, and they even removed ALL the characters and even replaced the moving cars with Miis by these static cars and lifeless shy guys. It really doesn’t feel the same. 😔 0:12 On the right, you can see all the Miis and logos over them, ALL removed on Switch. 0:16 They also removed the giant rotating "Coconut mall". 5:20 Now, they’re all replaced by shy guys, and THE FREAKING TOADS?! AAAAAAAAHHH

Take a look at how vibrant and blue the skies are in games from the 90’s and early 00’s (especially in Sega’s games) gradually over the years they were made into overly white layers with overuse of sun glare and crap bloom lighting. In these three iterations of MK the beautiful blue sky became sickly pale.

Yeah the MK7 version kinda sucks. It’s more faithful to the original, but IMO, that only makes it worse because it’s way easier to compare to two, and it’s basically a lesser version in every aspect compared to the Wii one. Just look how empty it is, it’s kinda depressing. At least with 8, it’s different enough to stand on its own, even if some weird decisions were made, like with the flat escalators and the stationary cars.

Lol it’s from Tour. And as someone who’s been enjoying Tour all year around since the game’s launch I am enjoying every last track in the DLC. So glad Nintendo gave the non-Mario tracks THE BOOT! Tour saved us from having a DLC plagued by non-Mario content

Imo, 3ds and wii gave the impression that someone in the mushroom kingdom said "Fuck it. Put some ramps on the mall. Its a track now.". The mk8dx gives the impression that its already a track specifically designed for racing
