Paper Mario: TTYD is full of creepy moments. Finding the train is almost completely empty on the 3rd day; having your ship attacked by ghosts; having Cortez tell you to turn back throughout the cave; the Shadow Queen consuming the very souls of the audience to heal herself(instead of just their bodies like Hooktail); finding the missing fighters on the hidden second story of the Glitz Pit; the time after you beat Doopliss for the first time, but before you understand why you are playing as him; when those boos start circling you and you don't know that you can do a super swing to beat them away and think that you just have to make a run for it; etc.

Normally, when they are in a circle like that, Mario is on a pedestal in the middle of them. But having some gallows as some scenery isn't creepy, just dark. And we are talking about moments, not props.

During most instances, they are being presented to the thousand year door, and are revealing the location of the next star on the map, but during the final boss fight, they end up going to all the towns/people you've helped to gather positive energy/encouragement or something, so that you can actually hurt the demon.

I CAN’T believe more of Origami king didn’t make this list! Peach’s monologue at the beginning of the game, Bowser Jr getting cut to shreds by scissors, the game overs from the Jungle spring path maze, there could have been more on this list. Plus more from Color Splash too, especially Toad getting his color drained at the beginning of the game (wow, the past 2 Paper Mario games really had terrifying moments at the beginning), and of course Bowser being possessed by the black paint.

Color Splash definitely IS terrifying at moments. I never got to the parallel worlds (I got stuck on the Violet Passage level) but one of the highlights for me in creepiness factor is the opening just on it’s own- imagine being mailed the equivalent of a dead body drained of blood, and then seeing the very thing happen to your friend when you arrive in Port Prisma. Always shocked and terrified me as a kid. Seriously though, I will stand for Color Splash to be considered a great game, It’s not like TTYD or SPM (although I do want to play those someday), but it’s still a terrific game

I like to think the Luigi hanging himself thing in Luigi's mansion was intentional. Namely because I believe it is the ghosts of the mansion manipulating Luigi's Shadow to appear like he is being hung, when in reality he is not, in an attempt to scare him. If ghost hunting videos taught me one thing it's this: The Attic and Basement are where all of the crazy shit happens.

I’d like to add that what made it really creepy, and also depressing, at 21:02 was that there was tons of people in that area and you had to fight a bunch of guys and the portal expands, then Mario fights Mimi in a different area and when he goes back the portal had killed everyone and destroyed everything in that kingdom. Only a white screen with some ruins here and there is left. And you have to walk through the entire empty kingdom to get the pure heart which can take a few mins and it makes you reflect on how everyone who was there a minute ago is now dead.
