As a PC gamer, I think Sony really knows how to engineer a console and use the hardware to the best of its abilities. Uncharted and The Last of Us are some of the best looking graphics I've seen on a game for their time. And the new Uncharted looks phenomenal. And I could care less if it's 30 or 60 fps. Uncharted is so good I can look past performance issues. That's why I bought a PS4. I like Sony's gaming philosophy. They give their studios the backing to produce epic exclusives. They invest the money necessary. And I like Sony's executives' demeanor and attitude towards gaming. And look at some of their games. Horizon Zero Dawn. That gameplay looks phenomenal and the music in the trailer had me looking for the soundtrack online (which isn't out). And take Journey and Flower. My little 6 year old niece is a master at Flower. That's what a PS4 is to me. It's more than 60 fps at 1080p.

Actually, Shadow of the Colossus was one of the best games i've ever played, and it runs like shit on PS2 with 20fps, but only now i've found out about this, back on 2006 i had no idea about this and didn't even noticed...

kjwgaming I was there and on the internet back then. Oh yeah, we complained. Let's not glamorize the olden days. People thought Final Fantasy 7 looked like shit, when it was new. "Pre Rendered" graphics were frowned upon, FMV was seen as a marketing gimmick to sell games and not as authentic as in game cutscenes. What was better, PS jaggies or N64 antialiasing? Complaining was had by all at all times. It's what we do as humans. (even complain about the complainers)

Just gonna skip over Gran Turismo 3 on the PS2, when everyone lost their shit at how much of an improvement it was over GT2? Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PS3 with all of these little details that made this game look absolutely insane for an early PS3 game? Also GTA V on the PS3, which looked so much better over GTA IV even when they were on the same console and somehow still included so many more features and ran a lot smoother at such a consistent rate? And also DriveClub on PS4, that boasts weather effects that rival even the most demanding games on the PC? Nah. It's k.

Bdobbinsftw actually kind of enlightened me on this subject graphics aren't everything, but they really do contribute to gameplay. As the human race becomes more intelligent and more used to realism, it becomes harder to put ourselves in the shoes of whatever character we're playing. The worse the graphics look, the harder it is to suspend our disbelief and get immersed in the game. By having good graphics, a game is allowing the user to fully enjoy the gameplay. In other words, we aren't complaining because we want better graphics. We're complaining because we want to be able to fully immerse ourselves in the beautiful world a game has created for us without our brains telling us "this isn't real, stop getting immersed" every five seconds.

A horror game with Minecraft graphics would never be nearly as immersive as one with actually decent graphics. period. graphics do matter. Not as much as gameplay, but they matter. you don't seem to understand the concept of immersion. If you can get immersed in FF7, good for you, but you're in the minority. Most people subconsciously realize the game is not real. If you can trick your subconscious into thinking its real, via realistic graphics and plot, familiar concepts, etc, then you're immersed.

***** want some evidence? look at games like Battlefield and Call of Duty. the two most popular series on the market right now. brilliant graphics. Their marketing campaigns and gameplay are based around realism(or were, in the case of CoD, which has been declining ever since it went futuristic and unrealistic) and putting the you in the shoes of a footsoldier. Hard to love a game without being immersed. Notice Dragon Quest's sales are super low compared to those AAA games. You don't seem to understand the human brain. Its science. Its way easier to suspend your disbelief, and therefore become immersed, if the setting and experience is realistic and believable. The science and the numbers are against you, but sure, I'm just projecting.

The first Killzone was a great game, but after getting the whole trilogy on PS3, I realized it's controls were pretty... fidgety. And pacing was pretty slow. But 2, 3 and SF were great. I'd say they're better than Halo.

Taseen Khan Well I know what you mean about the controls, but honestly I believe they were designed that way for a reason, to give weight to movement and actions, unlike its floaty counterpart halo. I hands down prefer the style of killzone to most other shooters, and I believe the story, level design, character development and voice acting are so much better than in Halo. But then again, fanboys. I think it depends what they do in the next game, because so far a lot of my Halo friends have decided they are quite bored with the series and aren't really looking forward to the new one. We all played Killzone 3 and they went nuts about how good it was. Also, I hate to say it, but I prefer the online experience, boils down really to the map and objective design.

WarByte In all seriousness its graphics are actually quite good, it has an art style which is very unique (not counting all the clones) and the world is massive and fully destructible which was unseen before hand and on top of that it has lead to a wave of a new genre of games which surrounds creativity, survival and new player made content. And it still has one of the biggest communities in gaming history and is still increasing in popularity even though its been around since 2009 which most other games from that time have started to die off. I don't play minecraft (I got bored back in beta) but I still see it as being a pinnacle of modern gaming even if it is just cubes.

True Pride Ratchet and Clank didn't have much going on graphically, did it? It's hard for me to remember. Loved the Uncharted games, I believe the second one was just coming out when Arkham Asylum was released. I think they were about equal in terms of graphic quality, although Uncharted had a lot more going on in terms of particle and weather effects, water, and so on. Batman was more on polygon count and texture quality if memory serves. Both extremely impressive series in their own right.

Grand Theft Auto V is the prime example of what can be achieved with the previous gen hardware and it's somehow missing from this. The Last Of Us is a better game but GTA V is the pinnacle of Rockstar's graphical showcase, all the tricks they used in previous games were there in GTA V. It still has, to this day, the best lighting system in gaming and the amount of detail Rockstar was able to put in the game just by texture work alone should be enough to make GTA V a highlight on this list. To me, and taking its size into account, it's the best looking game of the last generation, even better than TLOU.

Take Shadow of the colossus as an example. Does it have revolutionary graphics ? No. Does it even have good graphics ? Nope. eddierios831 I think you're right. Since uncharted is a exclusive it is very likely that they won't need to downgrade, because they don't have hardware limitations of other platforms to worry about. Battlefront on the other hand will also get releases on XBone and PC. This will make it extremely likely that every cinematic that has been rendered and every bit of gameplay that was shown was built upon a very high-end PC. Therefor, to make it more usable for consumer-grade pc's and the consoles they will likely come out with lower resolution textures and distance rendering. They just use this tactic to get the croud hyped for these extremely beautifull graphics the average gamer will never see.

Nowadays, when a company shows off their newest graphical masterpiece, they are set on showing the most beautiful version. This can only be achieved by using the most powerfull PC that could be put together using consumer components. Not any normal consumer can afford this überpowerd PC, and the consoles in this generation are about as powerfull as medium- to high end PC's. And Uncharted would get the least amount of downgrade because they will need to show it on the PS4, therefor they'll need to go with the best achievable resolutions and particles that the PS4 can handle.

Random Default The PSOne had Hardware the was newer and a lot smaller so they could fit it in a smaller case with slight performance boosts and bug fixed.

You forgot about Soul Reaver 1. On par with MGS1 in terms of quality of graphics, and actually even more impressive, given that the game employed a number of tricks to give the illusion that there were no load times, and it was an open world game, to boot.

Consoles are still lacking behind the PC and I'm not saying this to talk shit about consoles but what's annoying me is that it DRAGS down the PC graphics as many publishers decide to downgrade a game's graphics (which includes the PC graphics) because the consoles just can't do it as of yet.

***** Don't know which games you play on PC, but I never had this problem. True, I only use my PC for first person shooters/PC exclusives and consoles for everything else, but the stuff I played on PC always looked if not better then at least as good as it did on consoles.

that's just the natue of multiplat games, well at least some of it yeah consoles holds down graphics on PC? never believed that. the real problem is majority of ppl that still use a mid or mid high spec pc or even lower than that coz nowdays, userbase is always the number 1 thing on game publishing rather than quality. if lots of ppl decide to go high-end then devs would no longer make the consoles as their main priority and there would be no longer hold ups on multiplat games. well im not an expert at this really, just an opinion and all

That's not true at all. Games like Watch Dogs and The Witcher 3 looked "better" when they were first revealed because the devs overdone the early demos. Just like how Ubisoft did for all their games before (like Far Cry 3, Ghost Recon etc.). This "downgrade" thingy doesn't actually exist.

I think even PS3s graphics on GTAV were awesome when it launched! That's how hyped I was to play it.. I've played about 100+ hours only free roaming and online and din't play singleplayer 'cause I waited to get it on PC.. man was that a long wait!!!!!!!!
