The reason for old songs being more likeable is that old songs focused more on their compositions and melodies while newer songs shifted more towards the rhythms and appearences much like English songs....Old songs are really gold!

Not 2010, 2017 I might agree, but definitely not 2010. Also this feeling happens in almost every generation. Every decade feels like it's worse than the previous one. Like for example, from this list, Dum maaro dum (1971), Golmaal (1979), Pyaar do pyaar lo (1986) etc. would have been considered a degrade but now we are appreciating them. Similarly the bad songs from current times will die out, and good ones will survive and will be seen as classics 10-15-20 yrs later.

Respect ur thoughts and totally agree that we feel like this every generation transition ........but what I said keeping singers in head.....we actually don't have singers now 🙂, after 2010 we had only few singers who were singing( Rahat , Arijit etc) but sadly they also left .......and I said 2010 because after that time an 'Husky singing' era came , and its a personal choice , I don't feel connected to that genre of singing 🙂.

One thing I noticed is a strong Sanskrit and pure Hindi domination in lyrics in 30s,40s. Later from 50s-90s it's majorly Urdu mixed lyrics and post 2000s Punjabi and English is getting mixed occasionally.

Since 2010 Bollywood has been completely conquered by western beats. Uniqueness of Bollywood music is gone now. Almost all singers now mimic western vocalist. Bollywood had some sort of a Mughal- North Indian flavor in music until 2000. Things started to change after that and by 2010, that North Indian flavor in music and dancing disappeared. Now Bollywood is mostly about showing half-naked Indian women mimicking American styles (dress, talk, walk, music, dance, food). Good news is that the story of several Bollywood movies is no longer boy-girl love, thug father and his mob, crying mother, and a villain.

Many old classic songs are heavily inspired from western music. Eg. Kaun hai jo sapno me aya is the Hindi adaption of Elvis Prisley's Margarita. Almost 90% of RD Burman songs are heavily inspired from western music.

@@SUNIT0912 Yes they are , but you know this was after many years that they got into western music , but they didn't stop making indian classicals , there were only few music directors and singers like RD Burman, bappi lehri , usha mangeshkar , etc who made these . These songs were phenomenonal too, because I think that somewhere they had a major of indian music's touch in them :) Unlike todays, where we rarely get our indian classic masterpieces ☹

@Energetic Coach also, most (almost all) songs in 1990s were inspired or copied from arabic/pakistan (nusrat ali khan's songs). Hardly any song was original. From Tu meri aashiqui hai (1990) to Dil ne yeh kaha hai dil se many songs were copied. Anu malik was most copy cat. He was trolled 2 years ago when people found out that his composed song "mera mulk mera desh" one of the 1990s song was copied from "Isreal" national anthem song.

It is not about nostalgia only. For early 2000's kids Udit Narayan ji's songs are nostalgia. But if they listen to Kishore Kumar ji , Lata ji, Rafi ji that means the songs are timeless and is passed from generation to generation. No no, 1949 Dulari onwards till 1969 for 20 years Rafi saab was the king. He ruled for ever single actor, comedian, character artiste in every genre of singing bhajan, qawwaali, nazm, romantic, rock, sad, funny. Except for Raj Kapoor and Kishore Kumar himself for whom he did sing a few songs. In the same period 1949 -69 Kishoreda sang only for himself and few songs for Dev saab - SD Burman only. He did not sing for any other actor. Aradhana onwards in 1969 till early 80s Kishoreda was no.1. Kishoreda unfortunately left us in 1987 itself. Please, im a Rafi, Mukesh, Kishore, Hemanta, Manna da and Talat Mahmood fan. This is not a Rafi vs Kishore issue. I thought ill put forth the facts humbly.

Before 1970 he only sang few songs for dev anand..Infact all filmare award he got was after 1980..when rafi. Mukesh all died. Again, ye example dene ke reason kishore da ko Chota batana nhi..he is one of greatest all time..I just want to say, first decade ruled by rafi. Second decade ruled by great kishore..both are best
