Something I noticed was, as Tony's ego builds, the amount of gold on his suit does the same. Mark 42 is peak ego for him, but following the events of Iron Man 3 and Age of Ultron, the amount of gold decreases drastically. Throughout Civil War, Homecoming (during his brief "appearances"), and Infinity War, his suit has very little to barely any gold on the outside, barring the faceplate. In Endgame, he's much more sure of himself, and the Mark 85 represents the point his wisdom met his experience and confidence at the height of each, where the gold stands out bright and sharp. It's almost a perfect balance of red and gold, and I think it suits him phenomenally.

somewhat, but the various patterns are lifted mostly wholesale from the comics. like the suitcase suit in IM2 being the silver centurion motif, for example. mk 85 is his iconic comic book pattern, the original red and gold(and not my fav, sadly. my fav is the first one from the first IM movie. just the right balance of red and gold, imo.)
@aeronautics6673

Maybe its just the fact of using the material with perfect need so that he can use the suit like in nano suits the gold is not that much but the other suits are with titanium so the gold was more and remember the suitcase one that was a compact small one so the gold can not be used there.🤔 that's my personal opinion though.

The first suit required a whole nother person to put it on The second suit required the user himself to put it on The third required an automated gantry system The fifth was a compact deployment system with automated assembly and was one entire piece that required the user to lift the main assembly onto the chest The sixth was a walking platform for automated suit up and down The seventh was a rapid deployment and assembly, launched in the shape of a pod with guided lasers for connection points, where the suit was one entire piece The 42nd was prehensile and each piece could move on its own for long distance and multi user use The 44th was a satellite deployed exoskeleton with a modular design for easy repair incase any part for damages which fitted over the 43rd suit The 46 was automated and could be fit inside something as small as a helicopter for rapid assembly in less than 30 seconds The 50th was completely autonomous with nano-particles for near instantaneous deployment The 85th was improved with stronger and smaller nano-particles that can slip between the fibers in a shirt, had faster particle builds and was capable of temporarily resisting the energy of the infinity stones

The nanosuits are cool but to me the best balance of "realistic" practical suits were the ones in IM3 where tony could have his full suit as a step in/ step out and the breifcase and wristwatch rigs that allow him to carry a suit with him of sorts but it is bare bones minimal.

@BecozBecoz still i just felt like the nano suit was just kinda ham fisted in as a "tony can do anything" plot point now. An example is the breifcase suit. You just get like little tid bits of it abt 20 min prior to its suit up but even when its done its left its impact as one of the cooler suits IMO. Just was like no flight no extra weapons just a bare bones exo suit with repulsers and armor. I guess the biggest thing with the nano suits for me is well if he can make several of these that can just create stuff out of nowhere with no real limitation or drawback why doesnt he make one for every non powered avenger? Same problem for iron man 3 in that if you can mass produce these it solves alot of problems honestly.

I do love how the suits advanced in reaction to a weakness in each previous movie rather than “he advances the suit and suddenly an exact situation for that advancement working appears” which I feel a lot of people would have done. The first movie was still the best looking suit, I totally get why in a universe with literal magic they let it get so past the point of belief with the suits but the first movie really felt like something that was possible to make not that far into the future (I know it’s not set in the future I mean in a few decades we’ll have some form of exoskeleton suit that enables some of these features e.g. movement/strength enhancement/weapon mounting etc)

One of my favourite advancements to his suits is seen in spider man homecoming. Previously in civil war, stark binds caps legs using a metal restraint that cap breaks in seconds with his shields. In homecoming, he deploys a similar gadget to help hold the ship together but its more of a cable instead because he knows it would be harder for cap to break. I love this one because it's so subtle and because I love the design of the mark 47 and it proves that stark learns from his mistakes

The only problem with the nano tech I have is that they would have the same mass and weight of a fully "grown" suit. Therefore, Tony would be carrying the weight of the suit around with him wherever he goes, which isn't very practical. In the comics with Extremis, he housed them inside his body, which takes care of the mass problem, but you still have all that extra weight to carry around constantly.

The new suits are cool in a "wow this stuff is so advanced" sorta way, whereas the older suits are summed up best by cinema wins for me, in that the concept is of course completely unrealistic, At least with today's tech, but the execution is totally believable, like assuming the tech exists, that seems like a pretty reasonable way for it to work.

I think part of it as well was once he got to age of ultron, Jarvis became an incredibly advanced AI (as he mentions, runs more of stark industries besides pepper) so although he wasn't speaking to Jarvis all the time, Jarvis was always in the background assisting I think the best example is in Iron man 3 when Tony was at his lowest with panic attacks and when he lost Jarvis, he basically lost the suit. So he found ways around this and accepted that he needed to make "suits around the world" run through AI (ultron)

The mark 2 was by far the craziest jump in innovation and design, obviously comparing it to the mark 1. He basically nailed the look top down and it didn't need to change despite 85 versions afterwards. Obviously suit designs adapted to the need (most apparent in Iron man 3, stealth suit, construction suits etc), but in general, the concept was near perfect with a clear goal that he wanted to make the suit as portable, adaptable, and light as possible It's pretty damn near perfect

In a sense I feel like Tony had to die because if he lived he would’ve been too powerful, say he lives for 20 more years these are some features I think he would have: • An extremely strong suit which not even Thanos can destroy and some sort of auto generating nano tech farm so he never runs out of armour • The whole time travel unit would be in his suit, no need for huge contraption • Blink deploy time • Potentially ant mans capabilities with dr pyms syrum in it • His suit can take any form, hulk buster etc • His blasters would be so powerful they can a blow a clean hole through a planet • Even if he wasn’t worthy he could still pick up Thor’s hammer just because of the sheer strength he has • And don’t get me started on how powerful he would be if he harnessed all infinite stones
