The thing with what Hal does with Whispy Woods is that they always take a new twist on it. Like in Kirby’s Dream Land 3, Whispy Woods literally begins to WALK after you in the second phase.

Whispy Woods' life is hell. Literally the only times Kirby sees him and doesn’t beat him until he cries are when Kirby gorges himself on Whispy's apples, which makes it harder for the tree to reproduce. The only time he was anything close to threatening, he had been hollowed out from the inside, filled with machinery, and -assimilated into the Borg collective- mechanized by Haltmann Works Company. And Kirby _still_ beat "Clanky Woods" to the point of tears.

It’s such a sad yet natural progression of the Whispy Woods torture over the course of this video. Especially thinking of it out of context. For instance, maybe the Robobot Whispy was that way because he had his body replaced with metal because Kirby damaged him too much. But then you get to Star Allies and are just instantly greeted by Whispy Woods crying out in pain as he’s burned alive. Kirby is messed up.
