My definition would require be that it has alternate music. Splitting in Mass Attack and the friend hearts are out. The tank in EY, the super abilities in RtD, Hypernova in TD, the armour in PR, and the Friend Star in SA. (The other friend platform forms might count, but that one definitely does. Same thing with the other transformation patches in EY.)
