Yea a lot of people don't realize the difference in voice clips he has, he's clearly more arrogant than Mario. Also Metal Mario in his Mario Kart 7 bio refers to him as Mario's metal rival and even says he causes havoc on the road. (Something Mario wouldn't really do)

You forgot the appearences in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/Nintendo 3DS. Brawl happens in Classic Mode sometimes and in Special Brawl. In Wii U/3DS it probably happens in Master/Crazy Mode and Special Smash. I'm not sure if it happens in Classic Mode on both.

Yea... Tecnically yes, there are two metal marios: One Is Mario with a metal cap the other was Born in the cavern where Mario FOUND the metal cap. This Is why they are two different charathers.
