in metroid on Nes and GB, utterly destroyed, both her suit and her body reduced to Ash, my friend RBQuark told me thats there was perma death in some Metroid games if you let Samus getting destroyed along with the planet to explode like losing all your powerups and equipments, i'm nor sure if its Metroid prime or the 2D metroid games as well, i've havent played Metroid prime back then because i wasn't brave enough for horror games when i was a teen back then, Metroid Fusion, Super Metroid and Nes Metroid are pretty much the only metroid games that i ever own so far

Metroid Prime doesn't fuck around Prime 1: Broken visor, and Samus' health is critical and she died Echoes: Samus lost control of her suit, and if you don't reboot, she will have heart failure and dies Corruption: The first game over screen shows actual blood, meaning she died, and the second one shows her corrupted by Phazon, and transformed into Dark Samus

Try to think what the armor have, most of her weaponry and life support system, unlike the 3D games where mostly either the support system goes offline or out of energy, which means Samus can still be helped or even help herself by repairing or recharging her suit after retreating, the armor tears apart into pieces and possibly disintegrate, as Samus needs willpower to materialize the suit, so much so that it cannot be taken off without surgery when she's unconscious, the armor tearing apart would already be bad, but now Samus is exposed, weaponless, and can't recover most of the weaponry she had easily, compound this with the fact that the atmosphere might not breathable or she might not be surrounded by air when this happens, which would slowly suffocate, drown, or melt Samus, clearly more painful than just exploding instantly

My favorite one is Super Metroid, because it was the first to introduce the idea of her suit falling apart. The entire game, we're given the image of this badass bounty hunter roaming Zebes in full combat armor, but when she's defeated, Samus is revealed to be just as human as any one of us (give or take a bit of Chozo).

As much as I love the Prime trilogy (and appreciate Other M's effort more than others), when I picked up Samus Returns and died for the first time (of many), I was overcome with nostalgia like never before. You've missed a Prime Hunters death where any crushing piston or ceiling or whatever will cause instant death. There is also Other M deaths where you get crushed by the elevator or cheap shot eaten by that lava monster thing in one of the tubes. I'm sure there are more in Other M but i don't remember or never triggered those deaths and it's been years since i last touched that game.
