Avi stopped because of the amount of touring while his mother was extremely ill with cancer. He felt he needed to be with her. He left amicably and was instrumental in them finding Matt.

Yes there's an acappela competition in the USA called Sing-Off ,, which they won season 3 (2011-2012). Thats where they got their start 8-9 years ago. Avi left in part due to the strains of the non stop lifestyle including touring but his mother was also ill (cancer) and he needed to be closer to home . he did not want to hold the band back and left amicably. He also helped them get his replacement, Matt Sallee. Avi started a solo career and is much beloved. I love your reactions to Pentatonix and sincerely hope this issue with being blocked will be resolved. Merry Christmas!!!

Homefree is another a cappella band for you to check out. There is a substantial overlap between Pentatonix fans and Homefree fans. Not really competitors because one does pop music and the other more country. Homefree won Season 4 of the Sing-Off. American a cappella bands have 3 well known basses who are all friends. Avi Kaplan did a guest collaboration with Homefree on Ring of Fire arranged for 2 bass singers that might be an easy place for you to start. Besides Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix, there is also Tim Foust from Homefree who has an insane 6 octave range and the lowest recorded bass note A0 of the 3. Geoff Castelluci of Voiceplay (was on season 4 of the Sing-Off but lost to Homefree) uses subharmonics to reach his lowest notes. Tim and Avi both stick to fire-breathing aka growling on those. There is also Vocative but I am not as familiar with them. Avi is the youngest of the group at 31 so his low range is still developing.

Avi (pronounced R V ) the bass and Kevin the beatboxer shared an apartment and practised for hours to hone their skills...which shows with their brilliant transitions....In the Sing Off competition which PTX won Avi & Kevin were named the 'Meat & Potatoes" of the group lol. Sing Off was their first time performing...It was all a capella groups....I think you'd love to see their journey into what got them to become the world's Best a capella group. Loved your reactions this time round...the pauses were good and if you just go back a few seconds when you resume play it's easier on us the viewer. Home Free and Voiceplay are a couple more pretty famous A Capella groups. Home Free is a country A Capella group and Voiceplay is more theatric A Capella.

I like what you said. I think they are very respectful of the artists they cover. So they make it their own, but they also pay homage to the original rather than trying to "outdo" them. On the Matt and Avi note - they are just different. I think folks certainly have favorites, they both are excellent members of the group and I think you will start to enjoy Matt. Other evolution videos are equally brilliant. Enjoy! Glad to see you still doing some PTX. I think they are getting blocked because it is PTX season (Christmas, so the label is watching more than they do at other times).

They were on the Sing Off which is a competition for Acapella groups in 2010 or 2011 and won. Scott the blonde, Mitch and Kirsty were a trio singing on you tube. Scott had known Mitch since they were 10yrs old doing theater, they met Kirsty in high school. Scott went to Cal State for College, Kirsty I believe went to Oklahoma and Mitch was a senior in high school. While at Cal State Scott met Ben Bram who would turn out to be an arranger for them. They wanted to do the Sing Off but needed 5 members at least. So with Mitch, Kirsty they met Avi who was a friend of a friend and Kevin who was also doing you tube videos. And that's how they became Pentatonix.

I could be wrong, but I think for any songs that aren't available for purchase on one of their albums/EPs/singles, you don't really need to worry so much about being blocked. It's their record label, RCA, not them, that has their stuff blocked. RCA only cares about the stuff they can make money on. I'm not sure I've ever heard of one of their Evolution of's...., Gold, or, again, anything not available on an actual album being blocked (but fellow Pentaholics, please correct me if I'm wrong on this). Doing live stuff probably also won't cause blockage, though of course the sound quality might be iffy. One great live one to try is their Popspring 2016 show, which has great sound. It has four songs (three originals and then Evolution of Michael Jackson). Also, it seems to be mainly the videos that cause the blocking issue; perhaps react to the songs that don't have associated official music videos and are audio only. I personally wish more reactors would do those anyway as so many songs that don't have videos are AMAZING. For those songs with the official music videos, you can always try just not showing the video (but watch it yourself so we can still see you react to it), or show the video sometimes and then cut to just the audio. Hope this helps, and PLEASE keep doing PTX!!!

My suggestion on preventing your videos from getting blocked is to put a specific disclaimer at the very beginning of your reaction. You can google this for the exact wording but basically the disclaimer says the purpose of the video is that you are providing an analysis of the video you are reacting to (poor grammer but just trying to give you an idea of what the official disclaimer partially says). It has seemed to work for other music reactors.

Why don't you try doing the Sing-Off Season 3 where Pentatonix got started 2011? Quite the Cinderella story. Should be alot less copyright issues and you will have the backstory. I love watching reactions to their Sing Off series, and you're right, there are minimal blocking issues. Seeing how great the group was right out of the gate speaks to the talent and expertise of both Kevin and Avi, imo, since the trio's earlier youtube upload didn't really compare. But when they all got together, they just exploded week after week!

Generally when anyone asks me a questions I tell them to google it. In short, a quick 30 second review of results by searching for 'pentatonix' will provide you with names and a wealth of additional information. Mitch, Kirsten and Scott were truly young early on; they were 19 when they won the Sing Off 3. Avi was original bass and was replaced by Matt when he chose to leave the group. Kevin is the beatboxer, but it a great singer in his own right.

Avi didn't leave just because of the touring his mum was very sick at the time as well so that was all added pressure, Matt is very good but doesn't have Avi range , but Avi did help them find him before he left so everyone was ok in the end xxx

There are plenty of other acapella groups, but few make it into the mainstream and no one really has manahed to reach the same level as PTX in terms of album sales, chart history and awards. Some of the other wellknown groups include Home Free, Voiceplay, Voctave, Straight No Chaser and while they aren't that big (yet) I want to mention the two other groups co-founded by Scott Hoying (the tall, blonde guy in PTX): Citizen Queen (all female group) and Acapop! Kids (as the same suggests, it's a kids group, but don't let that fool you - they are an amazing group of performers)

Those last 2 drew their members from Avi's pet project A Cappella Academy for 13-18 year olds. He, Ben Bram and Rob Dietz have been running that summers since 2014 and digitally this year and take kids from all over the world. Avi runs fund raisers for it with him and others singing every year as needed and reviews the applicant's auditions and helps run the sessions in the summer.

Yes to catch everyone up who hasn't been following Avi. Avi took a year off after leaving Pentatonix and spent the next year writing music. Change on the Rise, his first big solo release 7.5 million views last time I looked, has been picked up among other uses as the theme music for the weekly Apple podcast Relative Unknown. He sings really low bass notes in the music for Bladerunner 2049 and was touring the USA and internationally with his own music before the pandemic sent everyone home. I almost left out the A Cappella Academy that he runs with 2 co-founders Ben Brahm and Rob Dietz every summer for 13-18 year olds and runs fund raisers for that and visits colleges and helps with their choral arrangements since 2014. Mind you this is his idea of the slowed down schedule that he wanted after leaving Pentatonix in September 2017🙂 In March he started touring in the USA and In March his debut EP, I’ll Get By entered Billboard’s Alternative New Artist Albums Sales chart at #2 and its Top New Artist Albums Sales chart at #3. In addition, the 7-track set landed at #6 on the Americana/Folk chart, #13 on the Current Alternative Albums chart and #16 on the Current Rock Albums chart. His label is Fantasy Records who have artists like Paul Simon, Tanya Tucker etc. His touring was canceled like everything else this year due to COVID-19 . So Avi is fine. Okay here is the whole story. Avi leaving video and all. Yes Avi left in September of 2017 after being one of the founding members and vocal bass since 2011. He is in 250 or so songs though so you won't loose track of him any time soon. Deep voice and all. I've seen a couple of different ways to not be blocked: 1: stop video quite often while reacting, talk, back up slightly (to get transitions) and continue ...repeat. 2: React fully without pausing (Or with few pauses). In editing before posting edit in blank screens with 'fun facts' or pictures of whatever - anything to break it up. You don't need to delete parts just break it up somehow.

Yeah...it seems so arbitrary when KZbin blocks shit. I've never seen reactors have the problems that you guys from the UK have. I've seen one reactor from down under who, when the video gets blocked, puts a link in the description for his IGTV account. Maybe try something like that. Anyway...keep the PTX coming.

Many reactors handle the problem by blurring the video or just not showing the picture at all. Some add a Fair Use Disclaimer before the video.

Even though it is popular, I'd never seen this performance before. I would use all techniques except cutting slices out of the song. Pause all you want. Put a film over the image. At worst, you could just feed us the audio.
