In GTA 5, flamethrower was also removed. The reason may be because of ps3 limitations of codes or performance. Same for GTA 4 flamethrower, as you can see, GTA 5 cannot be handled by ps3 and x360 smoothly, it lags when too many amount of fire particles, can be noticed in crystal maze, bureau raid and the wrap up, it lags. In GTA SA, an M4 variant was removed. In GTA VC, the smoke grenade was removed in the PC and newer release, replaced by hand grenade In GTA SA, a type of shotgun was removed. These may not be true but I found all of these from Vadim M. I even doubled checked these on every game files (except 4 and 5)

More removed weapons: GTA 3: Landmine GTA VC: AK-47, tear gas, nailgun GTA SA: full sized Uzi (as seen in screenshots) Original GTA IV: minigun, C4, Spas 12 shotgun, Colt Python, Silenced Pistol GTA V: flamethrower, a bunch of unreleased weapons from the old screenshots (most of them are placeholders that were reused from Max Payne 3)

GTA SA was also going to bring back some weapons from GTA VC to but it got removed, there's even 2 other weapons called "gun_box", from what I heard, it was meant to be a gift item for CJ's girlfriends, there was even a skateboard model in the game file, we know it was scrapped but the skateboard wasn't only to be used as a vehicle, it was also listed in the weapons data as a melee weapon

Years ago I heard that there was some other weapon cut from GTA games. I remember even watching someone's video about it but I forgot who's video it was. Anyway, I believe it said that GTA 3 supposed to have a Sniper Rifle without scope that shoots like a standard sniper rifle but without possibility to aim. Then there was info that GTA Vice City should had a Pistol with suppressor and GTA San Andreas should have had Glock pistol instead of it's standard pistol. You know, the one that you see in cutscenes in various moments. Then there was rumor that story expansions for GTA 4 should have brought Minigun back. But I don't know if anything of this is true or not. I mean, I guess the one about Glock pistol in GTA San Andreas is true, because it is present in cutscenes but who knows.
