I believe that's Shin Serious Mr. Karate. Mr. Karate is just Takuma being silly Serious Mr. Karate is Takuma going all out but still holding back enough not to kill you. Shin Serious Mr. Karate is Takuma no longer caring about anything but victory and won't hold back vs anyone. It's why his only real super is the Ryuku Ranbu rush attack.

I always like the concept behind him Mr Karate in SvC and KOF, it's not a thing like Satsui no Hadou to Ryu or Akuma, it's just another "face" of Takuma psyche that Is results of an almost Inhuman training, one that not shows concern for his opponents safety or pushed himself too hard,

I feel like the SVC Mr. Karate is kind of like a forced way of getting an SNK rival for Akuma. Genjuro fits better as a rival since just like Akuma he is obsessed with fighting and killing. Meanwhile I don’t see how Takuma would ever recognise Akuma as an equal opponent when the latter is technically as evil as Geese Howard, while Akuma is highly likely to despite Takuma as well since just like Ryu, Takuma took a pacifist path in his art of fightings.

​@@abc2390986 You're kinda off on that brother, SNK could as well have shoehorned Omega Rugal or Orochi as an equal to Akuma, which were both highly powerful and universally beloved. The idea behind Mr Karate is to show who the mightiest boss of SNK ever was, and if you look carefully for Takuma's moveset throughout the years, you'll see he mastered the art to the ultimate form, including his devastating Haoh Shiko Ken in 2002 UM and his insta, invisible projectile. Serious Mr Karate is to put the mastery to full use. Even more powerful than Shin Akuma with you asked me.

@@Scrubermensch pretty sure they made Mr. Karate being like so out of control in SVC is they need a rival for Akuma and I always considered Genjuro is a better Akuma equal when they both are bloodlust killers that seeks endless power and darkness. Takuma just isn’t anything like that. Also despite how good Takuma is in his Mr. Karate persona. He isn’t likely to stand good chance against Shin Akuma since Mr. Karate is peak human when Akuma engulfed by Satsui no Hado technically isn’t a human any longer.

In actual KOF lore, and also depicted in KOF manhwa, he can destroy world, basically planet buster DBZ level shit. Nobody in KOF can beat him, they just can seal him that all. Canon Akuma is nowhere near on that level. Unless you brought up Oni from Asura's Wrath timeline

I like the evolution of Takuma normal fireballs, he mastered "hadokens" with a single hand and hadokens in the air, but eventually he stopped throwing fireballs to just throw some kind of invisible energy that reach the opponent until the other side of the screen or destroy the fireballs of the opponent, always liked to think this was the true mastery of the shoto character archetype in all fighting games.

Not only that but in SvC Chaos, Serious Mr Karate (his canonical final form, the one Ryo fought in AoF) throws that invisible kouken and it hits FULL SCREEN, it's quite literally the most broken variation of a projectile I ever saw, and I've play most SNK games.

Unpopular opinion. Takuma's sprite in KOF XIII is his best look. Not only his new fighting stance is more badass but also his new look reminds me of *Doppo Orochi* (Baki the Grappler) and real life legend *Masutatsu Ōyama* (rest in peace 😞) If Takuma returns in a new game, I hope he keeps his KOF XIII design. My favorite :)

Initially I disliked the 02 version because of the differences, just because I was used to the classic version, but later I started appreciating the kind of subtle storytelling behind his moveset changes, that is indeed pretty interesting. And it wasn't even made by SNK but by Eolith. The air blast Ko-oh ken for example was used again by SNK in their games.

I always found it weird how gameplay-wise regular Takuma didn't have a dragon punch yet Ryo, Robert, and Yuri did and they were his students, lol. I guess they just wanted to differentiate him from them moveset-wise but it was still always odd to me. Besides that. man i've always liked Takuma, he's such an old school badass. I don't think people realize how strong he is, dude was able to deflect a SPACE LASER. I hope he makes it into KOF XV at some point as part of a team with Saisyu but i doubt it sadly.

Lore wise he doesn’t want his old wounds to get worse but yeah since AOF is full of shoto characters. Takuma needs something to diverse from his students especially when in KOF 94 doesn’t have team edit. Like Ryo is punch based Robert is kick based while Takuma rely on his experience to parry strikes.

Since the beginning I was always disliked the KOF 13's fat Takuma sprite but it's impossible to deny that it brought many good things for him, who was kinda stagnant for a long time. That's mainly because the devs finally had to work on brand new sprites and animations for KOF 12/13. And speaking of supers I love the stylish arms gesture before ending the Ryuuko Ranbu, and the charge up animation as Mr Karate. The Neomax is also great, very plain Takuma-like. (Though I also miss the Hsdm from 02 that was a counter using the same animation).

Takuma may not be a contender versus the Orochi, but remember: Takuma (even at moment of seriousness) deflected a satellite cannon beam in KOF 2000.. Just to save the "mother of a future Kyokugen heir." A cannon that could destroy a city. Funniest ending ever to show the dynamics of the extended Kyokugen family.

Mr.Karate/Akuma vs Ryu/Kyo was one of my fav fights in SVC:Chaos.Mostly cuz it ends with Takuma frying Ryu offscreen with the Haoh Shoukoken and Akuma killing Kyo with the Raging Demon.Or Takuma and Akuma intentionally throwing a punch that would kill both of them when they clashed so they could go to the parallel afterlife.Or when they both showed up on T-Rexes in the distance(yes this was an official part of the manga for the game)

When I first saw KOF 13 Takuma's Neomax it was a kind of surprise because that final animation was taken from his Hsdm from KOF 02, which by its turn was copied from Shin Akuma's Lv3 super from CVS2 (released a year before KOF 02). And that move was invented the first time for KOF 02, that was made by Eolith and not SNK in case someone still doesn't know (SNK was dead in 02). So i believed that SNK wouldn't be alright with that animation copied from a Capcom game... But turned out they kept it and used it in their games when they returned in 03. SVC was one of their first ones. Good for us because that move is amazing - it's so plain and effective, so much Takuma.

As much as I like his moveset in SVC Chaos, I wish they gave him a better mask. The one in that game is comical, the nose is absurdly long, I can't even suspend my disbelief; anyone fighting him WOULD grab it. And yeah it's stylized and unique, I actually prefer the plain Tengu style, feels more traditional like an oldschool karate flick.

Takuma is one of my favorite underrated fighters in damn near any KOF game. I hated the versions where he lost his fireball to a place with an invisible force shot. It just didn’t look good. And I really hated his KOF 12/13 appearance and hit box because it’s almost like I am playing with Choi without his speed or Bao. Give me him like KOF 98 or like SVC as Mr Karate any day.
