I loved that show as a 6 year old, but even back then I was like wtf at his roar. One could argue they couldn't get the rights to his roar, but they had the name so that argument doesn't fly. I think it boiled down to they figured the roar would frighten children and that it wasn't appropriate for a Saturday morning cartoon, but that thinking was a mistake.

He didn't just have fire breath, (which is not actually fire but plasma BTW), he also had laser vision, and could blow enough air to repell giant monsters attacks. He was a power source and could absorb photonic and kinnetic energy ala Shin Godzilla instead of just you know, dying like Zilla did. Also Hanna Barbera Godzilla used 70s cartoon logic, granted it was an action cartoon logic but it was cartoonish nonetheless. IE he was way smarter than Zilla being capable of empathy and understanding far beyond that of Showa era Godzilla and even knew countless grapling moves.

The Godzilla Earth story was so touching. When then end hits and you realize what the story was really about, and how it's not about monsters or any of that tiny brain shit (which we all think is fun but yes it's not the point) but of something bigger and touches on multiple philosophical issues it's just so freaking poetic.
