I have a question for you guys: Have you ever felt hesitant to develop a relationship or grow a family because you are pursuing a career in medicine?
@thehigherevolutionary3 жыл бұрын
Yes, yes, yes. I'm not even in med school, but I'll start applying after I take the MCAT in a few weeks. Im doing an MBA and at the same time I'm finishing some prereqs for med school I didn't do in undergrad. It's hard, because I have so many classes and I had someone tell me: *come back when you're all grown up.* I'm like, I have to write a 40 page paper... for class - this isn't fun. Sorry, I can't spend 6 hours on the couch watching movies with you. Now I'm single and just resigned to be single until I'm further along in the process.

You definitely have a lot on your plate! 😅 I’m sure the timing of a relationship and where you are in the process will align for you when it’s supposed to. But you’ll always be busy lol so don’t feel the need to push off things outside of school that you’re interested in! Good luck on the MCAT and applying! With all of the things you’re doing, I’m sure you’re going to make a great applicant!

Yes. That's how I feel now. I'm about to be married and I don't know if I want to wait until I finish medical school or start having a family after my 2nd yr. Decisions, decisions.
@EvolvingMedic3 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on the soon to be marriage!!! And I feel you with having tough family decisions like that. One thing that I realized is as time goes on, the right decision for you becomes clearer. A year ago we wouldn’t have thought we’d be growing our family now, but then as seasons changed it became something we felt compelled to do. I have no doubt that you and your significant other will know what’s best for you all when the time comes to make decisions. I just hope Madison and I sharing our story and experience can show that it is possible if it’s something you want to do 😊

Watched this video twice: first time by myself and the with my wife. As a premed, 32 year-old, married, black man, married to a white woman, I've just noticed how much of an inspiration you are to me, dude. You are me in a couple of years... which is crazy, cause I'm older. Wow! Great video, great channel... God bless you, your wife and your future kids!!!

I haven’t even started the video yet & I can already tell I need this. I’m already married, in my late 20’s, & leave in a couple weeks to start medical school. Trying to find the balance between being a student & spouse is what I’m most nervous about.

This video gave so much perspective to relationships in Medicine! I’ve been with my high school sweetheart for almost 11 years, going on 2 years married. Our relationship has transitioned over the years due to me choosing a career in medicine. Ya’ll gave some great advice and tips on how to balance a relationship and medical school. I am applying this cycle and we are interested in having a baby fairly soon, but do not know what time would be the best. If you were to able to choose another time in your career to have a baby, would you have? And would it have been earlier or later? And why?
@EvolvingMedic2 жыл бұрын
What’s up Keanu! Great question and congrats on you and your significant other’s super strong relationship! I wouldn’t have chosen a different time because what I’ve realized is you’ll always be busy (med school, residency, faculty, etc.). So there’s never a “right” time based on that. To me, it’s more so when you and your partner feel ready and then you learn to make it work regardless of what stage you’re at

Do you guys recommend using loans to help with some living expenses? My fiance is starting medical school in the fall and I make a decent living but am still paying off my own debt, so I'm worried about not being able to pay bills
@EvolvingMedic Жыл бұрын
I definitely recommend utilizing loans to support your fiancé’s education. We were in a similar boat, but adding stress related to finances will make school (and life) a lot more challenging. Loans at this point is just another resource for you all and if you use them responsibly, they will only be a help.

If you had the chance what's one thing you would do better in undergrad before applying to med school? Your wife is beautiful btw 🐐
@EvolvingMedic3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I would have spent some more time learning how I learn. I think I was more focused on grades, and not establishing good learning practices and techniques, that the transition to med school was a bit harder than it otherwise would have been. So looking into things like Anki, getting into good study schedules, etc. And thank you so much! She really is! 🥰
