Вот с этой арии на Конкурсе Чайковского-78 и и началась звёздная карьера Эвы. Правда же, не к чему придраться!.Публика при первых же звуках была ошеломлена, овация длилась наперекор запретам на прослушивании. Архипова была в бешенстве (царствие ей небесное), Эва в момент сделалась любимицей публики, которая загудела, когда Архипова объявила ей 3-ю премию. Эва была лучше всех! И не ошиблась публика в своём выборе. Эву знает весь музыкальный мир, она возродила забытые оперы, она обладает уникальным голосом - "абсолютное колоратурное контральто". Считаю себя счастливым, что присутствовал на Конкурсе, узнал восходящую звезду и бережно храню её милый автограф. Браво, браво, Эва!!!

She was only 25 years old. of course she was a mezzo at that age! Her voice deepened, darkened and changed color as her instrument matured. I love her sound at all her stages!

_Her voice darkened so much she sounds like a different person at this stage._ _I really like her voice as it sounds now, but the purity of her voice ( here ) is now gone. I never would have recognized it as it sounds in this video._ _It is astounding what can happen to an operatic voice that " matures " to something very different from its beginnings.This seems to be very true of female singers as women have much more dynamic voices.There are so many sopranos who then sing Mezzo-Soprano roles & they sing them with the same impressive vocalizing. Male singers don't usually have the gift of vocal transition ( s ), I think._ _To sound like an innocent young girl at one stage & years later to sound like a formindable " man " isn't natural._ _She wanted to become a Magnificent Contralto & she got want she wanted at the sacrifice & cost to a beautiful, sweet-sounding Mezzo-Soprano._ _I love the Low Notes women can produce, but is it worth giving up radiant intonation ?_ _When I selfishly enjoy hearing Podles' Lower Register, I can't blame myself for the forfeiture of the brilliant luminescence._ _What A Sacrifice ( for ) What A Voice !_

@@cliffgaither don't agree. it depends on taste. but her voice became unique and got a fach which is critically needed in opera world. and she still has had her highest notes up to D6. yes her voice became a dramatic contralto and lost that empty sweet pretty bla blah. I love strong low or dark female voices, much more expressive than this.

Dávid Müller It’s not empty sweetness, it’s brilliant and clear and strong. I think the low muddy and foggy notes are overrated. People seem to forget that contraltos, as with all singers with a voice teacher whose trained in vocal pedagogy and that individual voices should be treated as individual, are taught to healthily and safely encouraged to explore and overtime broaden their entire compass of their vocal range, not just one part of it. Some contraltos are certainly capable of singing high just as some countertenors/male sopranists can sing low.

@@EmilyGloeggler7984 strong, dark, juicy low notes are criminally underrated in opera as also contraltos, ot dramatic voices: mezzos, sopranos, tenors, especially nowadays. everyone sings baroque, Mozart or bel canto. That's why I don't listen to bel canto. This style is like "the cheesy pop of classical music"

jovi1715 Merci Jovi . Je ne connaissais pas cette cantatrice . Je viens d'écouter Bartoli danza le même morceau . Et les différences sont impressionnantes . J' aime Bartoli depuis ses débuts Rossiniens . Elle a une puissance , une musicalité mais aussi une fantaisie qui ne plaisent pas toujours aux puristes . Ewa Podles est absolument parfaite mais c est une soprano . Ça change tout ce que l'on peut ressentir de ce magistral final de la Cenerentola . Elle est parfaite de justesse, de tempo , et de musicalité . Pour les puristes c est un régal . Merci encore.

Actually, the original singer to debut this role when it was written was a coloratura contralto, so it's of no surprise that Podles is singing this...

@@baritoneblazzin1965 It is a mezzo-soprano role. There was no mezzo-soprano classification back then so all mezzo roles were dumped into the contralto category. As were the singers. You will see this trend even as recently as the 1900s. Mezzo-soprano term only came into the mainstream opera fairly recently and was universally accepted. All the reports of Righetti’s voice who originated this role point to a higher rather than a lower voice.
