Another great review Ewan. I do remember Malaya as a country - I have an atlas that old !. Somehow I knew the cheesecake would be your demise. And Monique is doing wonders with her "Illuminating Spheres" commentary. I didn't realise you had a written a book on MH 370..I shall seek it out. Cheers

Hey Richard, yes, those cheesecakes are going to get me in trouble eventually! Monique still makes me laugh after 38 years of marriage, She’s so much fun to travel with. yeah, you should find the book in libraries in New Zealand it was quite a fascinating process writing the book helped a lot by Geoff Taylor my co-author. Malaysian Airline currently fly two type of A330. The A330-300 A333 or the A330-200 A332. Best to order your meals out of KL.
@ewanwilson231526 күн бұрын
Yes will do that next time. Do you prefer the -300 or -200?
@PandaSoft26 күн бұрын
@ewanwilson2315 A330-300 is the way to go. If you get the yellow lion plane it does look really nice from outside. I have flown this painted plane twice. The A330-200 hasn't been renovated in ages. The last A330-200 we flow last month was a big no no. Didn't have a working entertainment system. The light to tell you someone in the toilet didn't work. Also, you couldn't call for assistance as the assistance button just randomly turned on and off at random seats. Also the light on all the seats weren't working. I don't think they are fixing the seats on the A332. The only thing working was the free wifi. We also flew the A330-300 and the 737-800 last month too. The A330-300 is the way to go until they get the A330-900. The A350 is kinda of a pass because the A330-300 has the same seat as the A350 but has a class in front of business class. I don't mind flying old planes in fact l prefer A330 but l do want a functional plane. The A332 actually has the same amount of staff as the A333 but less business class seat. So if the plane is working perfectly find then the A332 is actually better service. I never had an issues with customer service on board Malaysian Airline. Always issues with ground crew making up their own rules. Service on board is generally better than Singapore Airlines. The only exclusion to this point is if you are PPS Solitaire or Karen or Kevin onboard Singapore Airines. All the accessories in business class, along with those not offered to business class, can easily be obtained by people in economy who are Karen or Kevin. I remember asking for an amenities kit on Singapore Airline and been told it's not offered on the plane. Someone in the economy complained, and magically, they have business class amenities kits for economy passengers.

@ewanwilson2315 I thought l responded to this comment. I recently flew the 737-800, A330-200 and A330-300. The A333 is always constant. It has the newer A350 business class seats without having someone ahead of you. The lion A333 is a nice plane. I have flown this twice now. The A332 when the plane is functional generally has better business class service. Between the A333 and A332 the stewards number is exactly the same. Note Malaysian fly to Beijing Daxing Airport which is literally in the middle of no where. There never delay in landing or leaving but takes an hour to get to the cbd. However every single A332 I have even flown had had something broken. The most recent A332 l flown on has the most equipment broken l have ever seen. I have no problems with old plane. In fact Qantas fly a lot of old A330. But the airline really Reno the inside of the A332. Just to give you an example. Toilet lights were not working, customer service button wasn't working and randomly turning on. The lights on the seat for your number wasn't working. The entertainment system was using an unknown operating system. That's just to name a few things. Majority of flights out of Perth are on the a332 with one flight been A333 and one been 737. FYI this is the same amount of crew onboard the 787 regional fleet business class in Singapore. Airlines. The Malaysian hospitality is generally better than Singapore hospitality. I fly Malaysian Airline with absolutely no status and on every flight the staff have taken that additional step to make the flight more comfortable. For example l asked for the meal to be delay as l wanted to sleep. I woke up early and went to the toilet. After this the stewards asked me if l would like the meal early. They replaced the tray cover when l spilt coffee over it without me asking. Let just say some airline you need to ask for a complaint form or be their top frequent to be given the same service.

The toilets/showers are being renovated due to a leakage issue. This is being done by the airport and not the airline and taking ages for some reason. If had an aircraft swap then its likely its changed from a A332 to A333 which is a blessing.
@ewanwilson2315Ай бұрын
Yes, you are correct it was a change to an A333. Thanks for sharing your experience. Safe travels

We are traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Auckland next year in business class as well. I am travelling with my baby and a toddler. Do you think is there enough space for my baby and I in that seat? As they don’t provide a bassinet in business class which is quite disappointing. I am trying to plan ahead. Are the crews helpful?
@ewanwilson23159 күн бұрын
Thanks for reaching out. Could you let me know how old the baby will be at the time of travel? If the baby is less than six months, I think you’ll be comfortable.. in the lie-flat bed configuration as long as the baby is sleeping on your chest you should be good. I know from experience with our grandchildren that the minute they are around nine months they are squirming around a lot! And that could be a little bit more challenging. The bottom line is it will be much better than the economy, I hope you have a wonderful trip

@@ewanwilson2315 Thanks for your reply! My son will be around 9-10 months old during our trip (yikes!), and my daughter will be 3.5 years old. I completely agree with you-business class will definitely be more comfortable than economy, which is why we decided to splurge on it for the first time. Thanks for sharing; your video was very informative! One concern I have after watching it, though, is figuring out how I’m going to eat while holding him 😅.
@ewanwilson23159 күн бұрын
@@LianKeu I think you might have your hands full. But the crew were really friendly and they’ll go out of their way to help. Your 3 1/2 year-old obviously will have their own seat.. what I found was when flying with my grandson at that age the tray table moves in an out quite easily so I had a pillow on my lap with him sitting on the pillow in my lap and as long as I had the food tray as far forward that his little hands couldn’t get hold of it I had some control!! I hope you have an amazing flight. Please tell me all about it. safe travels .

Those MH peanuts are so good. Still prefer MH inferior A332 seats over Air NZ herringbone anyday. I've learned to ask for Beef Fillet to be cooked as medium as possible. Usually they get it pretty close.
@ewanwilson23152 ай бұрын
I totally agree with your comment regarding the MH business class seat versus the current Air New Zealand J class seat which is so outdated it’s embarrassing. The new product can’t come soon enough, but I’m afraid that they’ve already been surpassed by other other airlines' latest product iterations.. safe travels

Oh, I was going to ask. Have you flown MH‘s new A3 50 if you have tell me what it’s like please?
@kenchew50022 ай бұрын
@@ewanwilson2315 Yes. I red-eye it to NRT late last year. Same Thompson Vantage Seat as the current A330. Sleep maybe better, from the lower pressure of the A350. Great flight. A350 supposedly about 1 feet wider than the A330-300. Don't know where that space went though. Maybe you were referring to the new reverse herringbone by Collins Aerospace (Elevation model) that will be going into the MH A330 neo. Rollout to MEL first (late 2024) then AKL (early 2025). The seat I am most excited about is the concept Collins Maya/Panasonic seat featured at AIX Hamburg. 45inch 4k OLED curved screen with headphone-less audio system.

@@ewanwilson2315 AirNZ has got their priorities wrong with their efforts into Skycouch/Skynest yet painfully slow development in J where the money is. Suggest you watch here on KZbin, Economics of Airline Classes by Wendover. Yes, AirNZ will have new seats (end 2024) but the rollout will take years! Due to aircraft backlog and shortage, they will keep some of their 777 until 2030. Do you think they will rollout the new J seats to those? Doubt it. Those old NZ J seats will linger around until then. I have a trip to NRT coming up in a couple of months, the options were MH with a stopover in KUL, means 2 helpings of satay with Chef on Call beef tenderloin, or pay 50% more with AirNZ on their "sale fare" with average food and bad J seat. It was a no brainer. I saw your video about the lounge, shame. I haven't been there for a while, as One World Emerald (like AirNZ Gold Elite) flying Qantas, I have excess to First/Platinum OW lounges worldwide, less crowded, usually restaurant style table service and better wines even when flying Economy.

Ken thank you for your insights. I muddled that up as I thought the A350 had the new seat. I look forward to trying out the new A330 Neo when it arrives. Yeah, the new Maya seat looks fantastic the wraparound IFE is a real game changer.. I find the ability to close the door to my seat gives me a feeling of privacy which I think is important. The Qatar Q suite is particularly good.
