printers are essentially throw away items at this point. some units are cheaper than the ink refills so it's more cost effective to buy an entirely new unit with it's fresh ink. A single item malfunctions in any way, same story.

Yes. Costs more to fix a printer than to buy a new one.

Hard rubbish in Aus is completely different concept to us in the UK, we have to take our waste to the tip. Here you have to intercept before it goes to the tip ;)

Same here in my city in U.S. we don't do a hard rubbish day, though some small towns nearby still do one once a year. So sad to think how much good stuff goes to landfill unnecessarily.

3:10 - a microwave as new, never used. To the curb still in its original packaging. Someone has either purchased it then could not be bothered returning or exchanging it or someone has received it from someone else, going, " Jeez, thanks ! ", then, later, " Bugger this ", and ditched it.

Another great street scrapping vid mate. I picked up a few bits today but nothing epic. A cheap brand LCD TV (I either repair them or resell or use the boards) and an Apple G4 Desktop. It was on the way to drop a vintage case to a customer in Brighton. In the UK, people have to take their hard waste to the dump/recycling centre so we don't have kerbside collections to rummage! :( I have to use selling and recycling platforms to source and collect my ewaste before people take it to the tip so an entirely different process! I always aim to repair or reuse over scrap but scrap too as the last resort. Keeps it all out of landfill :) Glad you're well mate and enjoying the regular uploads! :) Like the 'fridge is empty' and 'beers with the lads' challenges! Maybe under the current climate, do a 'energy/fuel companies are robbing bastards and have doubled my bills' challenge! 😂

Ben, even though those microwaves have been scrapped for the transformers, the Magnetrons still contain about 1/4 pound of copper. the round part underneath the aluminum fins is made of copper. You should know they're really easy to remove from the microwaves, since they have already been opened up on the street, just pop in your power drill and remove 4 screws. The Scrapyards near me have "caught on" to the electrical transformer. They always check if it's aluminum or copper, if it's aluminum, it's just scrap steel. A lot of microwaves these days have the aluminum wire transformers making the magnetron the most valuable part of the microwave.
@jonglewongle34382 жыл бұрын

Please cord cutters, leave 4 or 5cm of cord, the electronics recyclers then could easily test the gear to see if it works. Cutting the cord right up flush against the case pretty much instantly assigns the gear to the scrap heap.

Like what? You want to salvage a Video player? Or a dvd even blurays arent of interest to anyone due to streaming. A 30 year old fridge can be regassed and get new seals for the price of a new one. Have a look at poly prophets video he takes stuff to markets. Washing machine repair parts are expensive so yes you can fix them and then sell them for the price of parts you just bought. You have to spend time trouble shooting run it through all cycles to make sure it works ok. If you dont value your time and are happy to work for free then get out there and see how long it takes before youre snowed under and losing money. If a mower can be repaired under an hour there is a margin there (still have to take photos write adds answer enquiries wait around for someone to maybe turn up. There is no saving a waterlogged lcd tv. Ben has a working business plan thats profitable through trial and error. he knows what produces a steady and reliable wage.
