Where the streets have no name. Results of the research project ‘MA-P Maloutena and Agora in the urban layout of Paphos: Modelling the cityscape of the Hellenistic and Roman capital of Cyprus’.
Polish research in Paphos began on behalf of the University of Warsaw in 1965 and focused on the Maloutena area, bringing inter alia the discovery of the Villa of Theseus, the so-called Hellenistic House and the House of Aion, with magnificent mosaics. In 2011, the second Polish mission of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow - Paphos Agora Project was established, carrying out work in the Agora. Since 2020, Polish research on the ancient city of Nea Paphos has entered a new stage with the creation of The Joint Expedition of the University of Warsaw and the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, led by the author. In cooperation with the Warsaw University of Technology and the University of Hamburg we are implementing an interdisciplinary and international project focusing on 3D reconstruction of the city during the various periods of its historical development using the latest modelling methods. The most important results of the project obtained to date will be presented in the lecture.
