I agree completely. I cannot change the world, but I can change myself. I gave up eating chickens and store-bought eggs years ago after I rescued a hen myself and learned how smart and loving they are. Now I will always have chickens at my home. Mine are spoiled fat happy girls that only have to worry about which side they want to sunbathe.

Not all farms or country places are like that...the type ur on about is factory farms...yes they do mistreat short lives....which is depressing...I do not buy stuff that are from factory farms or not RSPCA/cruelty free approved....I buy from farmers by hand...its just as cheap the place i go to! Not only that but its all free range, and organic or not...My cousin has a country house...he raises sheep and chickens...cruelty FREE..they all roam around the camp site next door, owners dont mind(chickens only roam by the camp site) as for the sheep roam his massive garden or field i should say!

There has got to be a better way. Chickens are far smarter than people think and deserve better. We free range our chickens, only putting them in at night. They have several acres of pasture to range on. We enjoy the eggs. We also use them for meat but we are committed to giving them the best chickeny life possible. It makes me sick at modern food productions treatment of li ing creatures. (I have been involved in Agriculture all my life)

I've had to pick chickens out of batteries, they needed a foreman to lead a team of 25 men to load them on the trucks. We did 2 batteries every single night. After 2 weeks they called me to the office and said your contract is ready you are hired permanently. I said fuck this and walked away. It's horrible, not only how they look and behave: but the blood lice, dear god: at some places they are covered in millions of them. Sucking their blood. It felt to me like walking into Auschwitz. Some had almost no feathers and horrible infested wounds. Not to mention the dead ones we found! I could not help to get angry at some farmers for allowing it to get soo bad! Luckily batteries are now forbidden in my country. But are still other stables where they grow the meat chickens or broilers, they are so big and growing so fast that the legs can't support them anymore. From out of the egg to Arnold Schwarzenegger in 8 to 10 weeks. All stacked together. Similar situation, it's still hell. I needed money badly but this wasn't worth too lose my soul! Think twice before buying that cheap meat, just don't buy it. Your cheap meat and eggs cause this suffering... we want it all for free almost. Good meat cost MONEY people. Rather eat less meat, for example only twice a week. Buy some quality meat from good farmers who care for a high-end product! Biologically grown, almost germ-free and best of all suffering free! Support you local farmers they need it! It will make you healthier too!

It was good to see people who have farms and only kill and eat what they need to sustain their family or rare guests. +Pam Foldesi That is a very well put observation Pam! What you say is so true, it is only through both ignorance and willful ignorance that people continue to support the industry, and those like it. Its unbelievable that in our so called 'enlightened times', people are still putting the 'bottom line' of businesses (profit) before the well being and rights of intelligent and sentient beings. Society needs to wake up and re-address their attitude towards 'animals', they deserve to be acknowledged as individuals for their own sake, not simply as tools and the property of human beings, to be exploited and used by our will. Farming needs heavy regulations to be set in place concerning animal health and welfare, and a systematic restructuring of the industry or the bloody abolition of it, if they can't meet up to an acceptable standard of health, welfare and well being for these precious, living beings while 'turning over a profit'. At least that is how I feel!

If you'd ever kept chickens, you'd understand the folly of not eating eggs. They lay an egg a day-- what do you think is supposed to become of all those? The numbers don't work unless almost all those eggs get eaten.
@mightyaxolotl74
@mightyaxolotl74 6 жыл бұрын
chalo colina not buying eggs means not helping and encouraging that system. Buying chickens is the same : it's another form of egg business, even if they are treated a looot better (and those chickens baby brothers are killed). But if you have some rescues, eating their eggs is totally ethically ok in my opinion :) You could also feed them their eggs, or give them to your neighbors so they don't have to buy eggs from those sad sad mistreated chickens...

No, it is not one or the other. There are alternative, humane ways to farm chickens, and we need to legislate change, through the Farm Bill, and be responsible, petition lawmakers to ensure compassionate cruelty-free methods are implemented. This Farm Bill pretty much eradicates even basic measures. All animals are sentient, intelligent, have memories and emotions. You, sir, not the consumers, are the reason why these atrocities continue.

Ya, lets talk about the farmed chickens having a humane environment, the subject that needs our attention right now, not a debate on whether we’re herb or omni vores. I have slowly cut off chicken from my diet, I am not buying farmed fish or seafood. I still eat beef. I am lucky I live in Wales UK, their farming methods are more humane, than some.

I get my eggs from a coworker who has about two dozen chickens. He lets his chickens roam his property freely, no fences, and has two collie dogs keep an eye on them while they forage the garden for grubs. He built them their own spacious house that they go to and from as they please, and only shuts the door at night to keep them safe. It breaks my heart that people turn a blind eye to the state that most livestock is kept in these days.

I know right? We do the same. Tried raising our own but our asshole neighbors complained about our rooster crowing in the morning. He wasn't even loud, sometimes he'd be too lazy too. Technically there was nothing they could do but we kept catching them trying to harm our animals and felt it wasn't worth the risk or battle knowing things would just get worse so our family friend a short drive away took them in on his large acreage. Really baffles me. I'll never forget that "Either cut out his vocals or I will permanently" Our other neighbors were actually really sad to see them go, they liked our chickens a lot. Even after 8 years, this still brought tears to my eyes! I have macaws and it seems like many birds, besides parrots and chickens, love to be tickled, gently scratched and stroked. My birds fall asleep in my lap all of the time. They are 25 and the other's in her early 20s. Im not sure of her age, as she was removed from a dire situation. My parrots will actually lay down on their sides and sleep, while I massage under their wings. Birds make amazing companions, if raised with a gentle hand and infinite patience! Much love to the savior of these innocent souls! ❤🦜❤🐓❤🐣❤

No such thing as humane eggs. Even buying from backyard pasture chickens supports extreme cruelty, like throwing male chicks into a literal grinder. Sometimes they bounce out half alive and lie there on the floor suffering until they bleed to death. Plus the hens are bred to produce unnatural amounts of eggs which leaches calcium and nutrients from their bones and makes them weak and ill.
@PestilentAllosaurus
@PestilentAllosaurus 4 жыл бұрын
@@Adelicows Yeah... no. My neighbors and friends don't bounce baby chicks around like a basketball. They sell the EGGS that aren't chicks or let the chicks grow up so they can either sell the chickens of both sexes or have any excess not sold for consumption. Sounds like you only know about the big factories.

Abolition not 'improved' conditions. Stop enslaving living creatures - no compromise - for humans and every other animal. Cherry Blossom The problem is that so many people eat so much chicken in the world daily that caged birds take up the least amount of space and the birds are processed so efficiently. Healthy and happy birds are far more nutritious and tasty than caged birds, and so are their eggs. I will be raising chickens when I retire, and my technique will be using chicken tractors. Hope people feel that those are humane. I think they allow chickens to be chickens, and they are protected from predators in the process. Fresh air, sunshine, rain and fresh grass, bugs, worms and a dust bath here and there.

For as much as these creatures lives nourish our own, they should be at least treated well. It disgusts me that they are used as some sort of commodity, and that thus is ok...it’s not ok. This doesn’t even have to be viewed as a vegan/non-vegan argument. It’s just plain wrong to treat a creature under ones care that they suffer this much. I hate factory farming. These birds don’t deserve this. Sadly taking in rescued hens won’t solve the problem of abuse, but I am sure happy to hear when people do. Most people don’t understand that chickens are intelligent and caring creatures, just as much as your dog or cat. They make great pets. They aren’t brainless unfeeling things that are ok to abuse. It makes me sick to know how chickens are routinely abused.
