I think I’ve found my new idol here. 1) B747 captain 2) B747-200 pilot 3) CEO to an airline operating B747 4) CEO to an airline operating B747-200 5) Also flying helicopters This -200 looks like brand new, it’s amazing! This guy is super passionated, probably realised his dream, he’s not “just” pilot but have also created his airline… and which one is operating 747, and not new 747, but the mighty -200… Simply incredible. Congratulation. And amazing video too! (Like always, never disappointed) These 2h and 20min were like 5minutes. Such a pleasure, what a nice crew! Simply Impressed. (Yeah I repeat myself)

That 747-200 (4L-GEN) was purchased new 3/17/1987 and flew for British Airways for 15 years, In 2002 she was purchased by Air Atlanta Islandic who flew her for 4 years in their livery then in 2006 she was Leased to Malaysian Airways and they operated her for 5 years, then returned to Air Atlanta Islandic in 2011 until Geo acquired her in 2019.

This is one of those rare 747-200 cockpits. Back in the days, BA retrofitted a couple of their 747s with FMS and an EHSI display with radar and Nav display. Still, had the triple Litton 92 INS.s though. Love this cockpit upgrade.

Fantastic video of a classic bird! When I was about 8 years old in 1996, we flew from Heathrow to San Francisco on a BA 747-200 and in the cruise I visited the cockpit with my brother, I sat in the flight engineer's seat and remember looking at those huge 4 engine throttles! There a tiny chance this is the same plane, but hey its still a -200 variant which is cool. Hope they keep flying it for years to come.

That sounds like some awesome memories, really nice that they allowed you to sit on the seat and look around the cockpit. I hope I was able to catch the same plane you talked about in thisvideos :)

While I haven’t flown too often in my lifetime, maybe around 20 round trips total, I have had the awesome opportunity to fly in the best plane ever built, the 747 4 times. 3 of them were when I was young and we were flying to Minnesota from Seattle and back, sitting in coach class, but my flying highlight was a trip that myself and 3 friends took right after we all graduated high school in 1994. We flew from Seattle to Japan for a 2 month trip. Our flight took us from Seattle to Portland on a 737, then the long trip from Portland to Tokyo’s Narita airport on a MD-11. We had a long layover in Tokyo of about 5 hours before our flight to Osaka, who had yet to have the man made island international airport built which is why we had to fly into Tokyo. Anyway, our short flight in Japan was on a ANA 747, but not just any 747, it was the short version. There were a bunch of them at both airports in Japan when we were there, which was a surprise as I had never seen one before which surprised me living only a few miles from the Boeing plant where all the 747’s were built. The best part was that when we boarded the plane the flight attendant directed us upstairs, and for some reason the 4 of us were among just a total of 6 people who rode in the upstairs first class. We have no idea how or why the airline put us up there, we certainly didn’t pay for it, but being 6’6” tall it certainly was nice to have so much leg room that I couldn’t even touch the seat in front of me with my feet. It was at least 8’ away. If only our 11 hour flight was on that plane rather than the 45 minute flight haha. They had a camera on the front gear of the plane which they had displaying on the movie screen during takeoff and landing which was awesome as well. I can definitely see why people who can easily afford it pay extra for first class. I’ll never forget my short trip on the upper level of the great 747.

Wonderful to see a BA RB-211 equipped 747-236 still so active, healthy and good looking :-) ... not to mention watching in detail this awesome three man crew fly her in 2021! Interesting the technique used by the PIC as he deploys and deactivates the reversers, first closing the outboards then later the inboard units. Thank you Patrick, your multi camera angles do justice to this unique experience.

Gosh - I cannot express enough how much I enjoyed this and it moved me to place a lead on the Orbyx forum with these comments I just came across a u tube video of a piece of history - the only one still flying commercially. The video is a story of a Boeing 747 - 200 - which is the aircraft that I spent 100s of hours flying around the World between 71 and 82 mainly on Qantas - on a Business - that was allied to the aviation industry. I often spent some time in the jump seat because I knew a few skippers - and I notice that the a/c still has 4 windows in the nose that was part of FC and the 4th window was almost always my choice of seat - 2A. Although this is now a freighter - the cockpit is still almost identical - and still has a Flight Engineer Although it will be for P3D - I cannot but be more patient for the release of this Oldie - by Just Flight - and even it means that I will still use P3D for some time to come - re-flying my 747 200 travel logbook of the 70s - and meantime - trying out the one in MSFS

Thank you for this great view from the cockpit and a window into the life’s of these men!! I have noticed that this 747 has the old gauges as instruments. The modern aircraft has all electronic types, which did eliminate the need for a flying t engineer. That was the price for innovation I guess. Bravo to your hard work in presenting us this video!

Look at 23:21. This brings back fond memories. Older Boeing 747 planes had flight engineers (second officers). L-1011, A300, Boeing 707, 727, DC-8, and DC-10 also had engineer panels in the cockpit. The biggest panel was the Concorde. The flight engineer earned his money on those flights.
