He just craps on Mortimer's writing then does another cover of those Mortimer tracks like he did on the road from 2002 to 2010 till Terry and John vowed off ever working with him again

Brian knew it was a fig leaf pretense that Mortimer wasn't the sole creative person but literally asked to try out for it and then over the next couple of years Brian reaffirmed that Mortimer had been trying to tutor him in song writing but that he really couldn't be bothered and want to leave that job to Mortimer (until last album but Brian's tracks didn't make the cut for singles)

That's not correct. I work in the Industry and have done for many years, since a young age. I have written and produced for a lot of globally successful bands and artists both here and in the States. I am also currently writing with a couple of Jpop and Kpop bands who are taking over right now The songwriters do earn more but the other band members are paid too. How else to young think we have bands such as "Take That" and "Westlife" who are all multimillionaires - even though there is only one songwriter in those bands... or none at all? I used to have the same management, Tom Watkins at Massive Management and this doesn't surprise me one bit He managed a lot of bands who were my peers including the likes of "Pet Shop Boys" and "Bros" plus many others and it's a similar situation of mismanagement or extremely convoluted contracts with all of them.

Barlow absolutely would have had the lions share of Take That stuff but to cover that example a bit, Jason Orange was known to have invested his wages particularly once they had their second run at the group, Howard was doing some writing and actually wrote for other artists like Kavana (whose first album was Howard's work) Owen launched a solo career after the band split and wrote multiple albums, Williams launched a solo career famously and made money via sales volume rather than writing which was done for him for the biggest early part of his career Those guys very actively tried to keep making money and saved what they earnt doing gigs. Brian doesn't really talk about where the money went from years of doing gigs using the songs by Mortimer that he would periodically crap on. He has had periods of time where it's inexplicable that he would have had no money coming in but he had the appearance of living the high life The ecstasy comments likely have something to do with it AND with his friction with Watkins. Dude was finding next to no time to write anything for first 2 albums but was getting to sample all the party drugs Could have been a crappy deal but one thing, they weren't take that equivalent, Take That was formed by high volume of auditions through big talent scouting and each guy had their own strengths as a potential artist. East 17 was a fig leaf to pretend Mortimer wasn't just a solo artist but it turned out that in addition Brian could sing

All IMHO He doesn't handle it all very well though. Most of us went through touch things as youngster. Most of us have had greedy dodgy bosses. I narrowly missed out on being one of the top nightclub promoters in the country, because the industry got too aggressive for me, but that's life sometimes. Got to pick oneself up if possible and make it the next time.

Brian needs to get off his pity pot in 2025. I'm not a musician, but even I know you only get royalties for writing the songs. Brian would know this, so he should have written some songs when he was in the band. He's not been defrauded, and is in the same position as Terry and John. The difference is they have moved on and got over it.
