this is late but essentially the given number is 100% of itself, or 1 in decimal. If you want to increase it by 10%, you need to make it 110% of itself, or 1.1 of itself. That's the common ratio

@@trz1sr112 There's no mistake, it says "a/3" not "9/3". You are meant to show that d = a/3. He gets to 10a = 30d, divided by 30 and you get d = 10a/30 or d = a/3.

There’s a common difference being added between successive terms for AP. And there is a common ratio being multiplied for GP. Just identify how successive terms relate to each other. Should be pretty easy to spot what series it is.

Assume 10 litres as P On day 1 p litres is lost On day2 p+(10/100)p = 1.1p is lost On day3 1.1p+(10/100)p = ((1.1)^2)p is lost... So r = 1.1 Day1:r^0=1 Day2:r^1=1.1 Day3:r^2=1.1^2

@@aleezayalviYou just confused him further by your pointless abstraction. The first value of the series is 10 increasing by 10% per day. Therefore, the common ratio is 10 x 110% = 1.1 or in another way to think about it 10+10%=11 with the common ratio being multiplied by the first term 11/10= 1.1

Mine is the same as yours, he probably simplified some decimals. It’s going to estimate to 41 days either way so the real answer remains unaffected. Your working is what matters in the exam with the examiner usually instructed to adjust the answer for some margin of error, it doesn’t have to be perfect. Still, your method of doing things is safer and it’s advised to not round up any values apart from the final answer.
