The PS2 and Xbox versions of MVC2 were developed in a very short period of time because Capcom's contract with Marvel was expiring, it led to those ports being rushed (with Xbox Live support for the Xbox port being cut despite the fact that it was advertised in magazines) and were sold in limited quantities, leading to them being rare and expensive to buy on second hand market.

He also didn't covered that cable AHVB is ZERO FRAMES on the PS3 360 and that magneto ROM infinite is different due to speed and that Magneto now has his X-Men vs street fighter infinite too which isn't in Dreamcast or arcade

Maximilian basically debunked this "balancing" myth. Most changes are more the result of the porting process and not so much the result of the devs attempting to "balance the game". Every glitch change in the ps3/360 port are literally confirmed by the devs (to max) that the glitches just disappeared upon porting the code. They did zero touches to the gameplay

Something to note about the PS2/Xbox versions is the updated Marvel logo in the title screen. It's different than the Arcade/DC title screen. In my opinion, it clashes with the original logo as a stylized fighter, and more like a Branded Product, which is where Marvel games were headed at the time.

I was hoping for sprite differences between the versions but it sucks knowing the og dreamcast version had character sprites dumbed down or just straight removed frames. Usually this is the case when porting to home consoles from dreamcast/saturn to ps1, they had to make some sacrifices because of technical limitations so things likes sprites and their animation frames were cut. Look at xmen vs steeet fighter for example I love the animation for all the characters and when i played children of the atom and saw how cool and fluid the characters were, i was so amazed. Psylock and colossus were animated so well. Then when i played mvc2 i noticed psylock had removed animation, amd colossus just straight up removed his idle animation so it was an obvious cut or reset in his standing animation. As well as crouching animations just not existing
@NewGabeOrder2 ай бұрын
3:26 The Dreamcast version plays a little quicker than the arcade version, but other than that, it has no balance changes or glitch fixes from the arcade version. In the music department, you'll notice the arcade version has some music tracks that sound differently from all the other versions. The Character Select screen, both Ranking themes, Continue music, Game Over fanfare, and some stages like the Clock Tower get affected.
@NMRH2582 ай бұрын
In terms of audio, the arcade/NAOMI version of some other titles from Capcom also have similar issues of sound effects and BGM not being looped or improperly mixed channels. Specifically, arcade versions of the first Capcom vs. SNK, Power Stone 2 and Project Justice also have these same problems. I think the reason for this is that Capcom probably rushed the NAOMI version out to time crunch near-simultaneous releases for both arcade (2/2000) and Dreamcast (3/2000) in Japan.

I traveled and lived in Japan summer of 2003 as a high school foreign exchange student and the Tokyo arcades were still always packed with people due to fighting games and their culture. Hello Kitty was also starting to get big too lol. But yeah I wish we had the VMU Arcade point thing if there was a backup way to get points at home and trade them in for like Arcade points at a lower rate

Theres definitely slowdown on the PS2 when there's too much going on onscreen and not just slowdown, but some insane screen tearing that makes the game looks even worse than it already does with its lack of anti-aliasing. The reason for the game's low quality audio and heavy compression is due to Capcom deciding to press the game on a standard Compact disc as opposed to DVD-Rom. And yes, while the Dreamcast version does run at 480i by default, it also natively supports a 31Khz hi-res progressive scan image (just like its NAOMI counterpart) with the use of a Dreamcast VGA Cable, and it looks absolutely stunning with the right display screen.

2:45 this is mainly why JP mvc2 is cheaper than US mvc2. Unless you know how to hack your vmu, there's no way to unlock all characters. If you unlock characters with d points (btw, you can sit in training mode to max out those points), the game will only give you that option for half of the cast. The other half will need those other points to unlock. Great video.
@chazmaru95832 ай бұрын

The Dreamcast version runs at 480p via the VGA cable or recent HDMI adapter. And it IS arcade-perfect because the Sega NAOMI arcade and Dreamcast console versions were developed in tandem at the same time. 2:48 N-points are used for arcade connectivity (Dreamcast only), while V-points are used for winning online battles (absent from all of the Xbox releases, affecting Japan). So my difficulties for character unlocking in the Japanese version of MVC2 are: Xbox (Easy) PS2 (Medium, can't play online today due to Capcom Matching Service servers shutting down in 2004) Dreamcast (Hard, cabinets with VMU slots can be hard to come by, and online servers were terminated in 2004) I was lucky to buy a Japanese Xbox copy since the ISO dump online prior to my purchase was bad and can't be converted to an XISO.

I don't even care about the fact emulation is free, the fact that the marvel collection is a rom collection running on dubious emulators and they're charging 50 dollars for it is insane. They had a native port made for the 7th gen consoles, they could've at least ported that and fixed up any rough edges, that would at least make MvC2 play a lot better since it would run natively. But nah, that would make too much sense.
@Bruce_Mazi2 ай бұрын
I think the reason why the xbox version feels so much slower and it also looks slower is because the xbox version either doesn't have a Turbo mode (which is just frame skipping) or if it does have a turbo mode its frame pacing isn't done correctly which means that it will feel laggy since between frames the inputs are being dropped. from the looks of it, it seems to be the former but i dont know if there are any speed settings within the options menu to enable turbo mode. Turbo mode is what people play on competitively and for capcom games from the era it was achieved through frame skipping so frames would be skipped in order to make the game appear and feel faster but at the cost of inputs being dropped between those frames and the buffer for everything being much tighter. as far as i know when turbo modes are enabled both in SF2 and MvC2 its consistent enough that the drawbacks from frame skipping ultimately become null and void because its the standard mode that EVERYONE plays on. but thats just my theory on what i think is happening with the Xbox port

Some old combos don't work - possibly a bug and exploit that were fixed/removed from AC/DC. Colors are way off - None. Just DC fanboy rage when they know their DC console is dying (it did). Sounds are off - It isn't. Sounds are perfect. Game crash in odd situations - There wasn't any. Terrible framerate and slowdown issues - other than the short slowdown when the final boss Abyss changed forms there was no slowdown Lack safe counters - no idea what's that but no other issues. Those negative rants was because PlayStation 2 finally has the game. The DC DIED in 2001 compared to the PS2 while it died in 2013 (WW, 2012 in Japan). As you stated your tests for the PS2 version was done on an emulator. Mine is on a PS2! From Best to Worst (I correct for you) - DC - PS3/Xbox - PS2 - Xbox - iOS
