On a typical day with relatively poor propagation conditions, I can link to all three of our Western alaskan HF radio stations: Nome, Bethel, and Kwethluk. I test the radios every morning and every evening as often as possible , usually every day. The radios are installed inside the armories at each village. The radios at nome and bethel both are running one hundred twenty-five watts into folded dipole broadband antennas (T2FD type). Kwethluk is using a coupler into a 75-foot. inverted "L" wire antenna. all the antennas are low and close to the ground at less than 25 feet. The stations are no greater than 500 miles from the test station here in Wasilla, so we are relying on NVIS propagation.
