I have a question, why did you leave the normal vector for the paraboloid a non-unit vector?

Normal vector to a plane is cross product of 2 vectors in the plane. We can get those 2 vectors by taking the derrivative of the parametrization, since it yields the tangent at a given point. Setting x and y to 0 gives (0,0,1). where we take the negative so our vector points outwards.
