What I don't entirely understand is how a car is travelling at a speed in a direction that is already given, and then you are asking to work out the velocity? Is speed and direction not the velocity? Or by velocity do you mean the velocity you get from the magnitude?

velocity is speed and direction. However, the velocity vector has to have a magnitude (size) equal to the speed. The direction vector I had in the question 7i - 24j had the direction but it had a magnitude of 25, not 75 as we require. A vector 3 times this length is required to bring it up to 75 but will still be in the same direction. I hope that makes sense?

What degree did you do at university and are you a maths teacher at a school? I'm unsure of my future and think being a maths tutor might be fun.

My degree was in mathematics and then I went on to do a 1 year teaching certificate in maths. Did 5 years teaching in a school then spent 40 years teaching as a private tutor. Now I just concentrate on building the website.
