Side loading is standard practice in the real world. He did everything right. Lots of people on here who have obviously have no idea what they're talking about. The main thing to watch for is to not side load on an unsupported trailer.

I don't think some of you guys realize that sometimes you have no choice but to side load. If you take even a 35000 lb hoe on an asphalt road you can rip it apart. Even if it's cement you can send a crack down the edges if the pads hit it right. We busted a 3 foot chunk off a driveway one time with a 10000lb tracked skid steer. It just happened. Besides, redecking a trailer is easier than fixing a road. If you take it slow and easy, it isn't too hard on anything. Dozers are really the ones that are hard in trailers.

We use tires or belting, but this also requires labor.
@dozerblade12 жыл бұрын
In the 60's 70's we loaded everything over the side, 977, d6. d9, broyt and the trailors didn't lower to the ground then, you used to have to jack up the rear of the trailor and remove the 2 pairs of wheels, much easier to chuck down a couple of timers and drive right on!

in belgium they always load the excavators in this way if there are no ramps on the low-loader and it goes fast this way........and the low-loader remains in good condition if you have a good driver or operator ....... I dont see the problem

That's a good way to roll the edges of the trailer, therefore destroying the trailer.. I load and unload in the street when necessary, no matter how new or old the road is..

I wish the boss would let us side load our John Deere 230 onto our detachable lowboy. Pain in the ass unhooking and hooking the damn thing back up. Looks like you've dropped the gooseneck down and deflated the air bags on the truck to get it as low as possible to prevent twisting the truck frame.
@HHTV6012 жыл бұрын
It might be okay for the FRAME but when the machine turns on the wood floor with one track blocked, sooner or later the floor will be screwed up. Ever see an excavator turn sharply on asphalt road? I don't know .. I'm not an expert. The heaviest excavator I've ever hauled weighed only 35,000 lb, but it just doesn't seem like a hot idea.

that twisting would do some scraping on the pad though eh?
@johntapp33116 жыл бұрын
Just what is the freaking problem here?! This is done all the time. The damage to the trailer is minimal, and the operator looked like he knew what he was doing. I have loaded these excavators like this more than a few times myself, and sometimes I would drive up the ramps. Either way, whichever the trucker or the supervisor wants it. If you can't side load an excavator, you need practice driving one first.

@dmc3140510 жыл бұрын
I thought RGN trailers were made so that this wasn't necessary. The guy on the excavator is good at what he does, and I see that he had the trailer on the ground. Does loading like this save time? And if so, is it worth the risk?

i'm just about to get this kind of thing (hauling equipment with a lowboy) and even to me this looks NOT a proper way to load this Volvo. But naturally this is a company owned truck and prob'le company owned trailer, so why should the driver give a *uck? I'd never do this to my own trailer!
@jayco22216 жыл бұрын
Sergei Dratchev the trailer is built for this. Ours is too. We’ve loaded from the side for 15 years and never fixed anything on ours.

Side loading is wrong in a hurry or not. Trailers are not designed for the stresses incurred loading like this. The time is money state is foolish as well. It takes a lot of time to to gather the money to by a lowboy trailer so you might as well take care it. I own and operate my own lowboy and excavator I never side load a machine. To each their own though I guess money just grows on trees for you guys.
@johntapp33116 жыл бұрын
Iowaironman1 the decking comes under the heading of sacrificial wood, just like the teeth on the bucket, and the bucket itself comes under the heading of sacrificial iron. All under the heading of the cost of doing business.
