Coordinate system should be introduced at very first. Otherwise points can not be seen after adding x and y field. I took a lot of time to find that error. Other than that explanation is clear. 🙂

Thanks for the video. How does arcGIS know which projection system is the excel data using?
@SeekShowSchool4 жыл бұрын
Excel don't have a projection system. But when we import excel data to a shapefile we can set a coordinate system for the particular file, That's all

the FID variable is not necessary in the excel file. once you save as shp, arcmap will create the FID column automatically. why didn't you set the coordinate system?
@SeekShowSchool6 жыл бұрын
Dexter Marlowe of course you can even in the middle of creating shp file. But it is a event shp file so generally I add coordinate system after exporting as a true shp file. Doesn't matter you can do even adding FID .
@dextermarlowe97506 жыл бұрын
your initial FID would just be inefficient since you won't be using it for anything else and will just inflate your shapefile's size unnecessarily. try creating a feature class in arc catalog. it's much quicker and does not need the intermediate step of creating an event shapefile. but you do have to specify the coordinate.
