Excel Tricks - How To Concatenate With A Line Break In Excel

In this tutorial let us learn How to Concatenate with a Line Break in Excel
In Excel, we normally combine text from different cells using CONCATENATE function
But sometimes we may require to add a line break between the text which we are combining.
In this tutorial, let us see how we can insert a line break between text using the CHAR function.
Consider this example with three columns Name, Sex, Age and let us combine into 4th column using these two tricks
1. Using the Ampersand with Char
In cell D5, enter the formula as = A5&Char(10)&B5&Char(10)&C5
and press enter and make sure that you apply the Wrap texxt feature to see the line breaks in the combined text.
2. Get a Line Break with CONCATENATE and Char functions
In Cell D6, enter the formula as =CONCATENATE(A6,CHAR(10),B6,CHAR(10),C6)
Press enter and again in this formula, make sure to apply “Wrap Text” to the cell, to see the line breaks in the combined text.
In this way, you can use the Char function to insert a line break in the combined text.
use the Char(10) function, if you are using Excel Windows version and
Char(13) if you are using Excel MAC version.

With the same combinations in this video, how would you insert text directly into the same cell (not combining text from another cell but typing it directly as you would with Concatenate on single line). eg. =CONCATENATE(H5," "," add text here ",H6) ...can you do this with line breaks adding the text in the same way . Ive tried a few things but nothing works if Im including line breaks

Hi, I understood your problem, there might not be exact solution for this query. However, You can seperate the text into columns and then drag the number series and then again you can concatenate to join the text in the same format as per your requirement. or else you can write down to [e-mail] for further solution, if you did not understand.

Each character has a "char(number)" You can try changing the number to check other characters!

@@dptutorials It is NOT A line break as in hard return. This is asking excel to include 10 characters and wrap text is forcing it to the next line. This is crude and unsophisticated.
