I think the nice thing about VBA is that the better you get Excel the better you get at VBA. Knowing that the built in Excel functions seems to lead to seeing more opportunities to use those as opposed to writing code to accomplish the same thing.

I am not a programmer. Once I asked for help from a programmer to scrape and sort some data from a website. He did that for me. Fun fact is that his code took more time than my template (Excel+Some Formula+1 VBA). Just sharing my experience. Like Chandoo said "You will know when you need to use Excel or Python. Consider both just as tools."

Hi chandoo. I just came to realise that since VBA does not work on the web I have a problem when ‘collaborating’ with my colleagues, as some of my workbooks have macros and VBA sub routines which render the collaborating ( or rather the use of these sub routines) useless. Is Office script going to replace these features ? I do not seem to clearly understand what features we can use ( in the cloud) to enable macros or automation straight from a ‘button’. Am I making sense ? Perhaps with so many new apps , etc etc I am getting confused. Thanking u in advance. Regards. Martin

I build my first "client useful" VBA without knowing it. Count rows, add equivalent rows, copy paste values, flip values. That was using some formulas as well.
