Exactly what I was looking for - thank you so much! So much safer to use an actual data flied for this, I don't want anyone copying a chart for a report and losing a line that's just overlaid as a shape.

What if I have multiple numbers with the same target but I don’t want to have three “Average of Target” columns. In your example it could be Referral Sales, Cold Call sales, and Renewals all with a 5,000 target. When I add the Calculated Field Target it adds three new lines to my pivot table.

I have a bit of extra complexity... My chart is a stacked chart... Whenever I follow either of the last two methods, the new data stacks nicely with the other data...

When I do either of the 2nd or 3rd methods, I do not get ONE line - I get an extra column next to EVERY column, and then it changes my chart colors and adds way too much useless data to my Axis titles.

Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps you missed a step. Not sure the exact issue.

@@exceldashboards I'm having the same issue with using multiple columns and adding the limit to each column. Any advice on how to add just one limit column when you have multiple columns in the pivot chart.

How would you do it if you were plotting with more data sets: Some background, I am creating a dynamic chart, linked to a dynamic pivot table, linked to a advanced filter by region. Example of how my data is set up as follows: Sales Agent Daily Sales Period Goal John 27 Jan 2016 30 Mike 32 Jan 2016 30 Sara 35 Jan 2016 30 John 37 Feb 2016 30 Mike 29 Feb 2016 30 Sara 37 Feb 2016 30 etc.... When I pivot: Row Lables John(daily Sales) John Goal Mike(daily Sales) Mike Goal etc... Jan 2016 27 30 32 30 Feb 2016 33 30 29 30 etc.... I dont want the goal to repeat over and over.

Hi Kyle, I am not sure I completely understand. Do you mean if each sales person has a different goal?
