Hi Chandoo, thanks for all the videos...very helpful. Question for you: we have a situation where we have tons of survey feedback on open-ended questions (just open strings, lots of typos, misspellings, incorrect grammar, same name written in many different ways by different responders, etc.) as in 10K+ submissions, each survey with 10 questions (columns). We have the data in Excel but what we need to do is find common themes around some responses (e.g. "What's the most difficult part of your job?") and then rank them. If they were just numbers, it'd be easy, but these are open-ended strings. What tool(s) can I use (that's not expensive or complex to set up...we can't afford a local LLM installation for AI for example) to achieve this? TIA!

You are welcome Salmon... Excel is not the best tool for this. But if I must use it, I will try the below things: 1) Load the data in PQ and clean it. Remove excess spaces, punctuations, lowercase everything and discard unnecessary data (too short, too long or filler words). 2) See if you can use the "text analytics" feature of Power Query. This is a paid feature not available for all Excels. 3) Split responses into words and build a word list table. Substitute easy typos and synonyms. Load up both datasets back to Excel 4) Do a simple word count analysis on each column to see most frequent words to uncover themes. 5) Repeat the same (steps 3 & 4) for ngrams of 2 and 3 words if possible. 6) See if you can use Python in Excel to do some text analysis (you might try this first) 7) Pick 10 or 15 themes you want to evaluate. Assign weights to them and calculate scores for each response.
