"Tree's Blood" from Reel Start and #ExceptionalMinds is an animated short made in partnership with Paramount and Nickelodeon Studios. The production, a collaboration with Reel Start, a nonprofit founded by producer Evan Goldberg (Superbad, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, The Boys), premiered at Nickelodeon Studios in December 2023. Today the world finally gets to see it!
When Elveria (Ayo Edebiri), a self-absorbed eco-influencer, livestreams loggers to bolster her
brand, she is confronted by a mystical creature, Zamora (Rose Byrne), who is desperate to save the forest she calls home. The two strangers come together and are forced to put their egos aside to save both humanity and the forest.
Tree’s Blood is the seventh short film from Reel Start’s student filmmakers and the first made in collaboration with Exceptional Minds. Reel Start students wrote, developed, and produced a compelling narrative on environmental issues and one’s ability to detach themselves from the digital world and reconnect with mother nature with the artists from Exceptional Mind providing the final designs and animation for the short.

California nonprofit of the year, Exceptional Minds is a professional training academy and studio for visual effects artists and animators on the autism spectrum. Based in Los Angeles, we are a nonprofit organization a mission of employability, self-sufficiency, and inclusion. Our academy provides individuals on the autism spectrum with the technical and behavioral skills required for employment in the entertainment fields of digital arts, animation, and post-production visual effects. Our studio provides hands-on experience and employment opportunities for our artists working with Disney, Marvel, ILM, Sony, Warner Bros, Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Mattel and many others.
