It took LBJ to get the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Act's passed, I don't think a lot of our younger generation realize that. Was a great man.

I am from Texas and lived through and supported the civil rights movement. There were a lot of us that endured threats and harassment almost daily because of our support of the movement. LBJ was no saint but without him, the voting rights act would never had happened. Ms. Duvernay's version of the "facts" in the movie "Selma" felt like a slap in the face.

If LBJ had not done what he did in Vietnam he would be remembered as one of the greatest presidents in history and the second or third greatest Democrat.

What is really interesting is what American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is trying to pull today to eliminate same-day voter registration and require photo identifications cards from voters. ID Who will protect American voting rights now?

This was the last official point at which the parties switched and blacks began their unwavering allegiance to the Democratic Party

“ It is wrong but I’ll have these people voting Democrat for the next 200 years”

Still sad to watch people in the chambers who view other people in away that they don’t really want them to participate in Democracy but would send billions overseas for others to have that right but not the people who they see on a daily basis. Life. Still the chambers is dominated by the same class.

A wonderful speech that Johnson made. Then he lied to the American people about Vietnam and almost destroyed the country.
@DaeguDave110 жыл бұрын
Actually, the first lie about Vietnam came almost a year before this speech...his address to the American people on the Gulf on Tonkin incident was a bald-faced lie, and he gave that speech in August of 1964.
