That is quite a twist and twirl of the evangelion, my friend. First and foremost, if you cite from the Bible, do it correctly, please. In Matthew 5, the evangelist lists the blessings of Christ; blessed are: "the poor in spirit..." "those who mourn..." "the meek..." "those who hunger and thirst for righteousness..." "the merciful..." Then follow your two cited phrases. I ask you, in the context of the whole sermon if the mount: does Fr Sheehy seem merciful towards people if LGBTQ+ background? Who are the meek and those who hunger from righteousness in our time, and can't we be the merciful towards them?

@@romulus3345 it is not "homosexuals" in the Greek bible. The two words involved here are "voluptuous people" and "boy molesters." The Greek word translated "voluptuous" is "Malakee". "Boy molester" is a translation of "Arsenokoitai". The English King James Bible and the English Standard Version translate "Malakee" in 1Cor 6 as "Homosexuals." This is a relatively recent translation, however, as the word "homosexual" was not coined until the late 19th century. For centuries, the word malakoi, from which malakee is derived, has also been equated with masturbation. It was only when masturbation was no longer viewed as a sin so great that one could not inherit the kingdom of God because of it that homosexuals were suddenly spoken of.

My priests preach the truth - and this is the truth (and I live in the USA). I don't think ours are fire breathing but if people think this is scandalous I can see why you would think it. He preaches it with love and pointing us in the direction of Heaven. You love the sinner but hate the sin. I am a sinner and have a lot to work on myself. Our country needs more of this type of preaching too. We don't all live as we ought but that is something we all have to work on.

It's great to see an actual Catholic priest in Ireland preaching the faith and condeming what is sin. If he were to give this sermon 10 years ago no one in Ireland would've noticed or made a big deal about it. But 10 years ago things have changed. Priests offer water downed masses with no reverence and act like everyone goes to heaven. And this preacher definitely does not believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ, but follows his own agenda of spreading hate and deepening the diversion of our society. But I understand your scepticism and can only encourage it, as there is seemingly not enough of it in this debate. Indeed it would be interesting to know where this preacher and his theory of 'knowledge' towards LGBTQ+ derives from. If he claims it from the Bible, then that is a very thin source. Even modern theologists have come to the conclusion that the often cited phrase about Sodom and Gomorrah has started to be interpreted as homophobic only some centuries B.C. - and the tanakh is much older than that. And there is much more to read in the Bible than the handful of phrases that people like him refer to. I read a whole another message there, and that is one of love, tolerance and understanding.

Shame on the Bishop for folding to political pressure and not backing up this brave priest on correct Christian teachings. One at some point each of us must take a stand on what side of the line that Christ himself drew in the sand to stand on regarding sin. Evidently the truth hurts. As Christ himself said, he did not come to peace to this world but a sword. Meaning his good news and God's will forces people to make a choice.

If that hurts peoples feelings well maybe they have something to reflect upon. When Christ spoke the truth people walked out on him as well. Did Christ try to stop them? No he did not. He asked the Apostles if they too wanted to leave. Peter declared "To whom should we follow?"
