Siskel and Ebert gave this movie Two Thumbs Up 👍👍 I first watched this as a video rental back in 1998 and Benicio's character made the movie for me and became a fan. I bought this on DVD when I got into collecting back in the 2000s. If you think Benicio is mumbling here, you should see him in The Usual Suspects. I love that character too.

Yea this was a fun road movie with good cars. I had it on vhs when it came out. It's basically two loners looking for a different life who find each other by the end of the film the same way that they met at the start, in the trunk of a car. It's not really a romcom, they require characters who are less outcast, typically trendy and popular to be fawned over by a more superficial and wider audience; probably why this movie bombed.

Yeah I agree that it’s technically underrated, even though it’s gotta so obscure nowadays to effectively not be rated any which way, but yeah it’s good. I’ve seen it a bunch as a huge fan Benicio Del Toro. I have a few complaints myself but they’re only minor and superficial, namely the random pacific northwest setting which I consider to be an eyesore and whatever Benicio was doing with hair at the time. You know, those highlights or whatever. Not cute. Also, while it doesn’t bother me, I can see some modern audiences being put off by the weird voice he does for Vincent. That’s just him connecting with his character actor roots but it could come off in retrospect cringe as the kids say. What do you think? You like the sound of it?

Yeah, maybe under watched is a better term than underrated, haha. I was a little confused by it at first -- I haven't seen many of Benicio Del Toro's movies and couldn't recall if that was his actual voice or not -- but I came to like it pretty quickly. He uses a very interesting way of speaking in this movie and I think it makes both the character and the actor more endearing :) Do you have any Benicio Del Toro movies you would recommend?

@@editionsofyou Oh, for god's sake, what a question. There's a ton. He's the best. Traffic is my favorite Del Toro film and my favorite movie of all time in general so I have to recommend that first, but for you, well, if you like Excess Baggage you might like Things We Lost In the Fire cuz it's another in the romance genre, albeit not a romcom as such. Yeah, you're good with like 90% of them. He lights up the whole screen all the time he's brilliant.
