EXCITER: Albums Ranked (From Worst to Best) - Rank 'Em All (Canadian Speed Metal)

In todays video I'm going to rank the full discography of the Legendary Canadian Speed Metal band Exciter. Exciter album debuted in 1983 with the groundbreaking Heavy Metal Maniac, they quickly followed it up with Violence & Force and Long Live the Loud. The original trio of John Ricci, Dan Beehler and Allan James Johnson then was split up and the band went throuugh a lot of lineup changes until 1997 when a new era of the band was established with Jacques Belanger took over the microphone. Daniel Dekay of BangerTV is now the bands new guitarist and hopefully we'll get a new Exciter album some day. And this is my ranking of Exciters full discography, from the worst to the best. Enjoy!

Great choice for an "Albums Ranked" video. These videos are a great resource for people that may be familiar with only a small part of a band's career. I saw Exciter on two consecutive nights here in Vancouver in the summer of '85. Exodus opened the first night, and Metal Church opened the second. As headliners, Exciter were very tight and performed the shows in a very professional manner. But by this time, you could tell that Exodus and Metal Church were representing something new and more powerful. I still enjoy listening to those first three Exciter albums quite regularly.

Thanks for ranking Exciter. I seen them back in '84 when they opened for Motorhead in Toronto. It was incredible to watch Beehler. He pounded on those drums so hard that the whole kit was in constant motion and singing while doing so. I have never seen anything like it since and never will. One of my favorite live shows for sure. They are scheduled to play in Toronto in February, not sure if it will happen though. Long Live Exciter!!!

First heard Exciter on Long Island radio station WCWP 88.1 FM in 1983. WCWP had a heavy metal show called "Rock N Roll Weekend (the Sammy Hagar song was their theme song)" that played bands like: Queensryche, Exciter, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Warlord, Manowar, Dio, Judas Priest, Rainbow, Sammy Hagar, Gary Moore, Mercyful Fate, Twisted Sister, Y&T, Anvil, Accept, Wild Dogs, Raven, etc... WCWP played "Under Attack" during 1983, and I grabbed a copy of 'Heavy Metal Maniac' as soon as I could. There has never been such a time as the early 1980s for heavy metal. It was undoubtedly the BEST time for Heavy Metal!

@@d_rocka Every weekend I would listen to it as much as I could. The NY/NJ/Conn area had several college radio stations that had metal programs back then. I lived in Flushing at the time. These radio stations also had metal programs back around 1983 in the tri-state area: WNYU, WRHU, WARY, WVOX, WRKI, and WBAU.

Nice review. I love Exciter, especially the first three. Note: Both Charron are not brothers. P.s. Although it has a very long time since I spoke with John, I know him personally. Back in the mid-90s, I sent him a letter and he called me back! I met him a few times at shows he invited me (I also spoke with Jacques a few times too). He was a cool guy. Sad that it did not work out with the reunion.

I have only heard about Half of their discography, but my favourite is "Long live the loud". I really like how they refined their sound. Though their first not least Heavy metal maniac would be among my favourites also! I remember the first time I heard "Heavy metal maniac", that was some trip!

Saw Exciter multiple times incl. a great show with Megadeth around '85. Kinda lost interest with them after 'Unvieling', glad they kept things going in some permutation. Very cool review. Agree with many of your points, but a few things. Violence & Force had some of the band's best songs, but were let down by an inferior production. Additionally, agree that Kill After Kill is an underrated record, but I'd say even underrated on your list. I'd put it tied with Violence & Force and Long Live .. w/HM Maniac the obvious opus. Keep up the great work!

Exciter was never really on my radar growing up in the 80s. The first album I bought from them in 1986 was Violence & Force. I bought it because it was on the same Megaforce label as Metallica and Mercyful Fate, so I thought I would give them a try. I thought it was good. "Violence & Force" "War Is Hell"; etc. are great. I didn't care for the chorus/reverb sound Ricci meshed to his guitar sound at the time, but it was a good release. It wasn't until I first heard Heavy Metal Maniac at a buddy's house that I thought shoot I need this album. But those were the only albums I've owned from them. I would always see their other records, and honestly just think: "God those are lame album covers". LOL! Exciter, like Raven, had a habit of doing this. Coincidentally I did like the Violence & Force and Heavy Metal Maniac album covers though. Anyway, I do love the two albums I've ever owned from them. Especially their first. Heavy Metal Maniac is a classic. Still rocks many, many years later.

@@RuthlessMetalYT I'm not sure. Just saying what Wikipedia (the ever reliable source) said. Also, I would've switched Violence and Force and Heavy Metal Maniac. It was sad when Beehler and Johnson let Brian McPhee have so much input. Completely changed the band.

I don't get this band. For me they are something like Anvil: they have cult status because they started career in the early 1980's. Maybe it was interesting to listen to their music then. But not now. In any case thank you for your efforts.

Black Sabbath with Dio completely RIPPED off a 1992 Exciter song called "Shadow Of The Cross". Listen to that song and then listen to Black Sabbath's song "Shadow of the Wind" from 2007. A BLATANT rip-off. I mean not only the entire sound and song structure was copied, but even the title of the song itself is almost the same. Not the first time Dio has done this either. The opening song, Jesus, Mary & the Holy Ghost, off his Strange Highways album from 1993 is a complete ripoff of "21st Century Schizoid Man" from King Crimson, and there's also the song "Turn up the Night" from Sabbath's 1981 album (fronted by Dio), which is a complete rip-off of Samson's 1979 song "It's Not As Easy As It Seems". Ronnie has done this A LOT throughout his career, without giving credit where credit is due.
